First of all what a beautiful and day and night for an opening game. Coming from CO we are used to, actually spoiled by great weather but when CNY gets it right it is really special. Wish i could have made the fine mess but we ended up hanging with friends at the lake too long so arrived closer to game time. Walking up to the quad you could sense that this was a different opener. Everyone just seemed to be more into it. It was a great feeling one that brought back good memories of past years. We moved seats this year not too much section 302 about the 40 and ended up with a great group around us. With a cold one in hand i headed down towards to field to take a look. My first impression was that our team was in shape. Lean was the word that came to mind. Athletic, the kids just look good.

From the opening kick off i felt that we would win but that the Wildcats were a very good football team. Their QB is special anyone could see that. The kid seemed to have eyes in the back of his head and he constantly made us pay for over pursuit and not staying home. The miss direction was as good as i have seen but what makes them work is the timing of their plays. They are so well coached it was really a pleasure to watch. Not sure if their coach would ever leave for a bigger program but if so he would be someone who i believe could get it done at a higher level. It was one of the best coaching jobs i have seen.

For our part i felt that we played ok. My fear of McDonald getting too cute became my nightmare but more on this during the main course. I have to say that i thought Wilson played exceptional. To be thrown into that situation and to play as well as he did was impressive. The kid has poise, guts, good vision and a gun. He is without a doubt the best pure passer that we have had on the Hill in a very long time. One other positive was how Shafer handled the team. He was hands on and really seemed to be doing his best to stay positive with the kids. I like how he handles a sideline. I kept notes on individual play and will serve that up later. What a game and what a great turn out. This year can go many ways and should be one heck of a roller coaster. We are a work in progress but you know we won. Against all odds we won a game that we had no right to win and maybe that says something about how this year is going to turn out. Great to be back in Syracuse with my Dad watching my 5oth home opener with him.
