Yeah, umm, I was right about to post the same thing.well unfortunately unlike the rest of the world we don't like soccer and we don't like the metric system.
or should i say "we don't cotton to " those socialist ideals. though we do like a Dunkin FrappoLatte...
Dead as a door knob. Never mind that David Tepper is likely going to be paying $300-$350 million to bring an MLS team to Charlotte. Foolish investment...Yes soccer is dead here. MLS expanding from 10 to 28 teams in a 15 year period. 20 new soccer specific venues built, couple teams averaging in the 40 to 50 k range several other cities with long stretch of sellouts . Pretty much dead in this country.
Where did you see the Charlotte expansion?Dead as a door knob. Never mind that David Tepper is likely going to be paying $300-$350 million to bring an MLS team to Charlotte. Foolish investment...
Didn’t hear that.Nope, Charlotte.
Did you hear Garber's comments prior to the MLS championship? something along the lines of "Charlotte's moved to the front of the line." Tepper has the money (The wealthiest NFL owner). The Raleigh group needs state funding to build their stadium.
Here's some more info:Where did you see the Charlotte expansion?
Raleigh is a more likely destination.
Definitely have upped their game. I knew they had gained ground, but not like that. That’s big time right there. Here's some more info:
Don Garber: Charlotte at "front of the line" for expansion as MLS eyes 30th team | Pro Soccer USA
Garber also pushed back his deadline for MLS to become one of the world's best leagues.www.prosoccerusa.com
- Charlotte has led attendance in the ICC cup (pre-season warm ups for the European teams) that past 3 years, solid attendance for Gold Cup games.
- Panthers executives claim they have 60 commitments for luxury suites
- Ally Bank has already committed to be prime sponsor
- Tepper has former MLS executives in the Panthers front office , Tom Glick (helped found NYFC)
It's been fascinating to watch it develop. The biggest question seemed to be selling the MLS on using the football stadium. The stadium will likely end up being replaced in the next decade anyway but the Panthers have a request (not sure if its formal yet or not) for $200M for improvements to make it 'soccer friendly' or something like that. Tepper isn't stupid, he's moving the football operations across state lines to leverage tax breaks from SC and there have been rumors of an eventual new stadium straddling the NC/SC state line to play up the "Two states, one team" slogan. He's been incredibly open about wanting an MLS franchise since he bought the Panthers. Good times and lots of momentum building.Definitely have upped their game. I hope something materializes. Would love to have an MLS team down here. It's been fascinating to watch it develop. The biggest question seemed to be selling the MLS on using the football stadium. The crazy thing is that Mecklenburg County is already spending several million to rebuild an old stadium downtown to relocate the USL club from the suburbs. Hopefully, that renovation results in the lacrosse team being resurrected in some form as well.
What would be the point, the OL will be new again next year on most teams and again there will be turnover after that. Not sure, maybe they would like to have two 100-yard rushers every week? This is the first game our run game didn't look like garbage.
If I was a recruit I would look at the YPG for rushers on the season...
its doing well in countries that dont have TVs or any real sports.
thank you kyle rote jr. franz beckenbauer and pele.hey i grew up in the 70's and was told soccer was the the next big sport in america . it ain't . never will be. not north america anyways. i played all 3 and speaking for myself i'd rather watch lacrosse or hockey. hell i'd even rather watch NASCAR than a soccer game.
cuz driving is more fun than sleeping.
NASCAR isn't even a real sport and Soccer looks like intermittent group exercise to me...running followed by walking, occasionally kicking a ball and sometimes falling down. You'd rather watch a bunch of cars drive around in circles then watch actual athletes being athletes? Thats a shoulder shrug to me but to each his own i guess.
