The Dome was empty...again. Where are the fans?

Saturday at 4pm. No bad weather, critically important game for the season and the place was empty.

Been going to games for 30 plus years and never seen home games so lightly attended.

Sad.
Sadly it won’t change until there’s a new coach. UNC will get a large crowd, probably with all those UNC fans living in Central NY who have never been to the state of North Carolina lol.

Why would anyone pay Louisville and UNC level prices for BC level performance?

Tickets were cheap. Less than $10.

Seems like Autry has lost the fan base. Or people just don't want to attend live sporting events anymore. I think it's a bit of both but mostly the former.

Miss the buzz in the building!

Those tickets were bought by someone else originally, someone else who doesn’t want to go. That’s the point. Your season ticket holders should be there every game but when you put on mid major level performances you get mid major crowds

I imagine part of it is the multi-year, ongoing decline in attendance for mid/low-major OOC games. Look at nearly any arena this time of year and you'll see a vast sea of empty seats for these kind of games.

And part is that SU has been a mediocre-to-lousy regular season basketball team for literally a DOZEN years now.

Why on earth should people support this?
Because we're Syracuse and that's what we've done since the Dome opened.

Going into this game, we were on the "bubble" based on the metrics and this was a critical game to keep our trend towards relevance this year and no one showed.

Just stuns me how bad the attendance has fallen off over the last 4-6 years.

Should be a flashing Red sign to the Athletic Department that you've lost 50% of your fan base.

The problem is our results have been so bad playing Hofstra is actually an important game for us now. That is the problem playing Hofstra is now an important game. Hofstra is a cupcake should be blow out now it is a pivotal game on our schedule because we suck under this coach. It isn’t our standard and the fans are letting everyone know the only way they can by not showing up to these types of games.

We haven’t been relevant for a decade and we no longer have a HOF coach to give fans hope that they can turn it around.

If we don’t turn it around soon expect conversations to turn to how we should have a smaller, basketball only, arena.

A huge arena is great if you have a successful program that fans want to see, and it’s an eyesore if you don’t.. and we don’t right now.

We all miss it. There was nothing like the big game feel of a packed Dome. I hate that it’s past tense and truly hope we see it again.

Ive got plenty of other things to do than go to the dome to watch a product thats based on nearly a decade straight of mismanagement from on the court and up the hill. There’s zero accountability. We’re the only program who’d let the fall out from JB continue to effect us years later. The amount of nonsensical excuses is ridiculous.

I don’t care about fighting for relevance. That attitude should have been tossed out years ago.

There was less than 10,000 fans there last night. SU could easily close off the upper deck. It looks like old Seton Hall games where they put a curtain around the upper deck. As a season ticket holder, unless they can fix traffic flow from the west parking lots after games people are just going to stay home. I was still stuck in the parking lot at 6:55 last night. Once you’re out it still takes forever to get off the hill. They have to open traffic up through ESF. When you have a two hour drive home, waiting in the parking lot for 45 minutes is not worth going.

A follow up. The parking lots are barely half full and it still takes forever to get out. God forbid if they were all full.

The Dome really needs high level football AND 20,000 fan crowds for many of the basketball games to be economically viable. Right now both are at risk.

I hear you but we still had a shot for the season goal this year (NCAA tournament) going into this game and we knew Hofstra was sneaky good and this was probably going to be a tight game and nobody showed.

We win this game and we would be looking at nice win streak and right in the conversation for NCAA.

I guess what I'm getting at is that fan base has totally made up their mind on Red and it's all over. Done.

The people have voted and the AD better act.

I used to park at the VA garage. I get that it’s free for vets and I’m ok with lower “service” but they needed more than one way out. If you didn’t leave with 3-4 minutes left in the game, you were stuck for an hour. Regardless of attendance.

The AD is a large part of the problem.

I know there’s a lot of talk about the coaches and the program. Overall it’s on them but I’m going to say it’s the players too.

I’ve never met a fan that goes to watch a coach coach.

There just haven’t been inspiring players in CNY in a long time. It’s Kindve crazy that Kyle is our best and most electric player in years. People are way over JJ and Donnie Mr Glass Freeman. Then the freshman and transfers have been way too inconsistent to get anyone excited. Outside of some exciting dunks, watching a team be worst in the league in free throws and just terrible from 3 isn’t going to get people motivated either. Granted the defense has looked better than it has in a decade it’s still not enough.

Correct. Most of the fanbase made up their minds last year and the athletic department decided to delay the inevitable, which will now lead to losing more money this year with continued decline in interest, attendance, concessions, etc.
