- When the lead reached 60-40 with 8 minutes to go, Jim Boeheim took out Tyus Battle and put in Jalen Carey, a talented freshman who hasn’t played much in recent games. Jim wanted to give him some serious time in an ACC game. But he had to yank him back out as BC went on an 0-14 run. As he pointed out in the presser, it wasn’t really Jalen’s fault, although the only thing he did in his 2 minute run was get tangled up in the defense on a drive and turn the ball over on a tie-up with BC holding the arrow. Everybody else just seemed to stop playing hard, as if Carey’s entrance was a signal that the game was decided and they were just playing out the string. JB may have made the move too early, (with 7:58 to go), but he trusted the other players on the court at that time, Dolezaj, Brissett, Hughes and Boeheim, to hold things together even if Jalen had a hard time of it. We didn’t score a single field goal in that last 7:58. We were 0 for 5 from the field and committed 5 turnovers. BC did have to foul us at the end and we made 7 of 10 free throws. That enabled us to hold on after they got it to 6. But it should have bene a relaxing final 8 minutes and it was anything but.

- For the second straight game, as described by Boeheim, Paschal Chukwu “had nothing” He’s scored 1 point in 33 minutes in the two games. He did have 6 rebounds four blocks in the two games. But he’s let too many people get to the basket and been out-positioned or out-hustled for too many rebounds. His back-up Bourama Sidibie played for one minute and gave up two lay-ups. Marek Dolezaj played brilliantly in their stead but BC doesn’t have a big inside scoring threat. He won’t be able to play most of the game at center against teams like Louisville, Virginia, Duke and North Carolina.

- I was hoping for a big comeback game from Frank Howard after his horrible game against Florida State when he was 0 for 2 from the field, 0 for 3 from the foul line and had 3 turnovers and no assists. In this game he had no turnovers. he also had no free throws and just one assist. He was 1 for 9 from the field. Most of his shots were short as if he didn’t have the strength to get the ball there. Instead of -9 ‘net points’ he had -4. I suppose that’s an improvement but at that rate it’s going to take a while for him to achieve adequacy.

- I was hoping Elijah Hughes was making a comeback when he scored 17 against Florida State. But tonight he scored only 7 points, getting off only that many shots. Through the Miami game he was averaging 14.9ppg. Since then he’s scored 6, 10, 5, 17 and 7 points. His offense had given the team an extra dimension from last year and it’s bene mostly missing in the last 5 games.

- We generated so much offense off of our defense in this game that I don’t really believe our offense got better. It may have been a little worse. We scored 5 more points than we did against Florida State. We had 25 points off turnovers and 12 fast break points. We had 18 and 4 vs. the Seminoles. We played 8 guys against Florida State. Four of them scored 62 points and the other four scored nothing. In this game we played 9 guys. Five of them scored 63 points and the other four scored 4. We need to be getting better and we aren’t.

Eli's numbers seem to be going down as Buddy's rise. He seems to be deferring more, or perhaps teams have figured out they need to key in on him. But you're right. We need more from him.

That is one of my favorite analogies Ive noticed on here in awhile. Your writing tends to help make tough subjects easier for me to handle for some reason.

Aside from turning the ball over, they took bad shots. Both Oshae and Tyus took and missed early shotclock threes when we should have been working for a better shot and letting time run.

Marek Dolezaj played brilliantly in their stead but BC doesn’t have a big inside scoring threat. He won’t be able to play most of the game at center against teams like Louisville, Virginia, Duke and North Carolina.

This is scary.
