- I spent the whole game, (especially the second half) being amazed and appalled that we refused to use what had been a major weapon for us: Garrett Shrader faking to Sean Tucker and hitting the opposite hole or running a quarterback draw to take advent age of his power and quickness. Instead we went to what has been a major weakness: Tuckers throwing arm and the fact that he was throwing to mediocre or young receivers who couldn’t make the plays to help him.

- Dino’s explanation for that: “We’ve got some young people up front trying to block some big cats…The guy responsible for him was as big and athletic as he is.” Is that a reason to avoid our strengths and to try to beat Clemson without weakness? If Tucker had a guy the same size and athletic assigned to him, would you stop going to him? On our first half touchdown, Shrader faked to Tucker, ran to the edge and walked into the end zone. For the game, after running for 137 yards and 3TDs on 16 carries vs. Florida State and 178 yards and a score on 29 carries for Wake Forest, Garrett ran the ball 7 times for 10 yards and that one score. Instead we had him pass 37 times, 20 of which fell incomplete. One pass went for 62 yards and a score. The other 17 completions gained 129 yards, 7.6 yards per catch.

- If you’re going to try to beat Clemson through the air, why not put DeVito in?

- Dino explained why he went for the field goal and the tie on 4th and 1 by saying “I thought we had momentum”. If we had momentum, why not go for the first down- and the win? In the last game he was going to go for two because we had momentum.

- Our receivers didn’t help Shrader, both in terms of getting open while he scrambles and catching the ball when they could get their hands on it. Dino said “We’ll put them in the oven and when we get through banking we’re gonna have something exciting.” It’s your 6th year, Dino? We’re still wanting for the oven to bake things?

- Andre Szmyt is officially no longer a reliable kicker. A 48 yarder is not automatic but that wasn’t close to being close. I still think he’s hurt, (he was reported in the tent a couple of games ago. People who have looked at some screen shots say the laces in the ball were backwards, suggesting that the hold was the problem here, (and why would Justin Lustig prefer to be at Vanderbilt?). But Andre has now missed 4 of 11 field goals, (as a freshman he missed 4 of 34), and an extra point. He’s 1 for 4 for field goals of 40 or more yards.

- Penalties came back in a big way. A couple of personal fouls fueled Clemson’s first scoring drive. I don’t recall ever seeing an offensive face mask penalty before this season but I think we’ve now been called for that three times.

- Dino’s now lost 13 of 19 and 11 of his last 13 one score games. It’s not just bad luck.
