- Le Moyne, like Colgate in recent years and Cornell lately, just went at us from the opening bell, feeling that they could win and were here to do exactly that. They played hard for 40 minutes. Syracuse, on the other had was sloppy and poorly coordinated. We missed shots, both short and long. We missed free throws. We had a lot of early turnovers. Our defense was a sieve.
- We finally got the intensity going late in the game as we went from down 52-57 at 12:43 remaining to up 81-74 with 1:58 left, a 29-17 run. We had the ball and just had to take care of it and see if we could get the lead up to 9-10 points. Here’s what happened: Jacquan Carlos turned it over, Dwayne Komora scored a lay-up, Carlos missed a lay-up, Eddie Lampkin missed a tip-in, Jyare Davis missed another tip in, Trent Mosquera hit a three on the break, JJ Starling made a lay-up and Freds Pauls Bagatskis hit another three to make it 83-82 with 22 seconds left.
- They say you need strength down the middle in sports. Our defense out front was a revolving door. Our centers were AWOL in protecting the basket. Lemoyne drove the lane with no resistance over and over again. Red has the team playing man for man but I wonder if our personnel are more suited to a zone.
- Daquan Carlos is an interesting talent but he’s rather small for a Syracuse guard. He’s listed as 6-0 but I wonder. Eric Devendorf said that his “size is going to be an issue all year. Le Moyne is going at his chest”. Brian Higgins suggested that Jyare Davis can dominate against Le Moyne but he might find his size a problem against ACC teams. Mid and lower major players can look good in these early games but are they really ACC players?
- Lucas Taylor hasn’t even played well in these early games. He’s a shooter and so far he has shot 5 for 20 overall and 1 for 8 from three in three games and his value is limited when his shots, (which haven’t even looked close), aren’t falling. Why not give Elijah Moore a shot here?
- Does Chance Westry exist, or is he just a legend?
- Pat said we missed 12 lay-ups, (I can’t count that high) and 11 free throws. We were 4 for 22 from three. That’s how you keep an underdog in the game. Hopefully, it means we’re really better than this.
