- Our defense basically had one lapse: they got sucked inside by early penetrations that left Pitt’s single outside threat, Jared Wilson-Frame open and he hit 6 of 9 threes in the first half. Even when we started defending better, he had the muscle memory to make any shot he chose until we finally made it hard for him to get to the ball.

- One guy who did not step forward was Oshae Brissett, although he tried. The fact that he tried but the best he could do was go 2 for 8 and score 4 points against Pitt’s extended defense is discouraging.

- Marek Dolezaj has been struggling lately. He was productive but fouled out against both Duke and North Carolina. Since then he has 15 points and 13 rebounds in 98 minutes with an assist to turnover ratio of 4-9 and 11 fouls.

Usually you can judge a player’s contributions by those stats, but Marek does some things that don’t show up that way. He gets his hands on a rebound - some other player gets the stat; his height deters shots; on offense he gets into the middle at the free throw line to relieve pressure on the guards and to help with ball movement.

We hope he can make the next steps — continue to add to his game on offense, get more inside points, beef up his rebounding (and his body). Maybe that will come.
