- We are still not shooting well from outside the arc, except for MCW. He was 3 for 4 but his teammates were only 4 for 17 after 4 for 20 vs. West Virginia, 5 for 15 vs. Cincinnati, 7 for 23 vs. Notre Dame 5 for 18 vs. Pittsburgh, 5 for 20 vs. Providence, 5 for 18 vs. Villanova . The last 40% game we had from outside the arc was the Marquette game on January 7th, when we were 8 for 20. Since then we are shooting 38 for 135, (28%) and that’s now over 7 games. That’s a bit long for it just to be a slump.

- Scoop Jardine and Brandon Triche, our starting guards, were 4 for 12 from the field , 1 for 6 from the arc and had 5 assists and 6 turnovers. Yes we have options but one of the best starting backcourts in the country has to do better than that.

- Against a team playing five freshmen our vaunted defense produced only 5 steals and 11 turnovers. We didn’t need them as we were rebounding so well but still, steals and fast breaks are part of our offense and that was missing tonight. We will need them Wednesday night.

MCW hitting threes is a plus, the fact he is being called in to perform that role is not. In the future, MCW is a very big three point threat, and I get more excited every game. Tonight was no question.

However, in watching the game, our offense got a lot of three pointers that were wide open. I think we will hit them as we go.

We have filled our one weakness with our big man. Neither Keita nor Christmas were ready to cover for him. The performance of Christmas bodes well for the future, but he can't fill Melo's role this year.

Not crazy about subtracting someone from the equation to prove we had a poor 3pt shooting night. With that method we could subtract BT's 0-4 and get 7-17 which is 41%.

Not that SWC ever needs defending, but he was trying to find the downside in a game with few.

Now that I think of it, he did say some dumb in 1999, but I think we talked that over fully back then. I was pissed he didn't have spell check.

I here that ... was thinking the same thing ... forgot to add that.

I know where he's coming from though because the team hasn't been shooting great. The worst part about our missed 3 point shots is most of them are wide open looks which these guys should be draining 'em.

Looking at this another way, the team was 7 for 13 from outside, except for Kris, James and Brandon (collectively 0 for 8). The problem is that Kris, Brandon & James will be the ones taking the shots in tight games.

Scoop was OK from the field & put up 7 points in 15 minutes of play, then led the cheers for MCW. In 26 minutes, Brandon had several nice assists, but otherwise did not follow up his stellar play at WVa (1 FG, 4 points). Of course, we didn't need Brandon to be on his A game this time out.

Human beings are the only animals with opposing thumbs. I also have opposing fingers.

The problem with one guy shooting well vs. the team is that he might not be shooting well the enxt time. And our overall percentage, (7 for 21) is still sub-par even with MCW. In the alst 7 games we are 38/135 from three, (.281). In the 17 games before that we were 117/316 (.370). That's a pretty significant difference.

I think he subtracted MCW because MCW may not get much PT in close games & the "regulars' are still not hitting from afar.

But it wasn't just one guy shooting well. Scoop, Dion and CJ were shooting well enough. I believe these 3 will get the minutes coming down the stretch unless one of them is having an off night. The big question is if KJ will get out of his funk. Earlier this year he was our best shooter when left wide open. Now he's not only missing, but missing badly.

Nice job SWC75. I always look forward to our analysis. Nice to see friendly banter too. i
