- It was basically a battle between two mediocre teams that, in the words of Matt Park, didn’t seem to want to do what was necessary to win the game. (He said that before our late rush to clinch it). Neither team could pass. Both teams did inexplicable strategical things, such as State’s eschewing field goals twice and SU trying to win the game through the air before they remembered what we were really good at. In the end it wasn’t an earth-shaking performance. It was just another score in the Sunday paper.

- None of our problems have really been addressed. Wolfpack receivers were running wide open on several plays but the NC State quarterbacks couldn’t get the ball to them. The next time we play an opponent who can actually pass, the results will be the same as they were vs. Penn State, Northwestern and Clemson.

- Just like against Clemson, we had a huge amount of rushing yards but those yards tended to come in quick bursts. We had trouble sustaining a play-to-play attack, grinding out 4-5 yards a play, chewing up the clock and scoring in the red zone- the thinks most good running teams are good at. Gulley had a 55 yard run with a penalty tacked onto the end of it that put the ball in front of the goal line and we couldn’t punch it in, settling for a field goal. On the next possession, we couldn’t make it on third and one.

- Last week out wide-outs caught no passes. This week they caught 4 for 17 yards. Last week we got 74 yards passing, 32 on one play to Ashton Broyld. This week we also got 74 yards, 39 on one play to Ashton Broyld. Terrell Hunt was 31 for 39 for 446 yards 7TDs and 0 interceptions vs. the two cream-puffs, Wagner and Tulane. Against the two ACC opponents, he’s 18 for 44 for 126 yards, 0TDs and 5 the receivers who, other than Broyld, simply cannot get open. Jarrod West had his second straight game without a catch. On one third down he could have made the catch but had “alligator arms” because of an onrushing defender. You can’t win in the modern game without a good passing game. It used to be that if a strong running team played a strong passing team, the strong running team would win, maybe easily. But that’s changed, especially if you have a poor secondary, as we do. It’s like bringing a knife to a gunfight.

- We lack organization and discipline. Last week we sent the punt receiving team onto the field on third down. This week we had a delay of game while lining up a field goal and decided to punt instead. We’ve had some false starts and several times in this game simply lined up in the neutral zone. State should have snapped the ball but bailed us out with time outs- if the refs didn’t simply fail to call it. We also had a roughing the kicker call, abet a dubious one. We have to do better.

Don't forget about the dumb holding penalty early in the game after Hunt had made a nice scramble for a first down. Instead of 1st and 10 it was 2nd and 16.

0-6 broken. First win against NC State. We'll take it . No matter how ugly.

That was a play that was created by the foul. The hold sprung him. What is dumb is when someone commits a foul that engates a play but did not create it: a foul away from the ball.

Agree with everything except the secondary. I may have missed something but the only blown assignment I saw was when Kirkland bit on a fake and left the slot wide open. Who was then overthrown by about 15 yards. Were there others?

On their TD.
