The GOOD news from tonight...

Even IF we get to another Florida bowl this year, how many of the folks from last year travel again this time around? Last year's Camping World Bowl was SU's first warm-weather/big-time bowl in what, 2 decades? Guessing the travel numbers were a little inflated by 20 years worth of absence...

That was Orlando. SU will get people to go to Miami in droves. Miami on New Years sells itself. If Syracuse had the turnout it did for the CWB, they'll see a 50% increase easily with a bowl in a city like that.

The bigger takeaway is the perception of us as a traveling team in the eyes of bowls. A 6-6/ 7-5 Cuse in the bowl-a-rama that is the majority of the ACC bowls may get some looks over percieved better teams due to ticket sales which means better bowls

Yeah that’s a head turner for me in a way Orlando is not

That's good that we're getting a reputation as a good traveling fan base. Unfortunately, I see 9 wins at this point about as likely as me getting People's sexiest man of the year.

All these sarcastic responders don't get it. The Bowls want fannies in the seats. They like us because we have a reputation for traveling well ... and putting fannies in the seats. Why is that so difficult to understand?
Its not hard to understand, it’s just difficult to be optimistic at the moment. I appreciate your providing of some silver lining here. Yesterday hurt but this is indeed good news.

It can’t be said that the fans and community haven’t gone above and beyond for this program, and there’s some proof.

I remember Syracuse having a reputation as a terrible traveling team, which contributed to us getting exiled to the Music City Bowl (and missing bowls other years). I feel like that started to change at the Akron game - I recall the Akron AD being thrilled with how many fans we brought. I'm sure many people share credit for the cultural shift in the Syracuse fan base - but I'm certain that TexanMark is one of them with the effort he's put in for years. Keep up the good work Mark!

You have to be impressed that the Bowls think SU travels well. This is a great sign as long as the team wins 6 or more.

Especially considering our rep in the '90s when we'd get passed over for WVU, VPI, et al. because they'd draw 300% what we would at bowl games.

Joyce, if we don't start playing better, no one is going to Florida or anywhere else to watch this team play. If we are good, they would love to have us. If we aren't they are just being polite.

There's excellent food, great nightlife, beaches, etc. Well worth going down there to see your team play. Treat yourself to a nice vacation to end the year. One of the better, if not the best bowl game destinations.

Sounds good, but think most of the fanbase are channeling their inner Jim Mora after the last 2 weeks, substituting Playoffs for Orange Bowl. Hopefully, we come together.

This is good to hear, we may not be making the Orange Bowl this year but if the perception among bowl committees is that we travel well that can only help if we are in a tie situation or are the cusps of being eligible for a bowl this year. I'll take any bit of good news I can get right now.

Not so sure:

Miami is further to drive to
Much more expensive hotel and ticket

Many of those fans last year drove from a 10 hour radius.

If we finish 9-3 or 10-2 that means good things happened to Cuse. I'd expect a similar sized crowd. 50% more is a reach

BTW, I understand what cto said...she is correct. Now Cuse is gotta win starting with WMU

May or may not be a reach, but you would see an increase. It's a much bigger bowl with prestige in a good location. Orlando isn't expensive on short notice around the holidays? Everyone increases their rates because of the proximity to Disney for the holiday. If people don't want to be on SoBe, they can stay at a hotel by the airport, some of which are very nice but far from the action. Between my transportation, tickets and hotel, I spent close to $700 for this past weekend alone; some people spent a lot more. I think that there are some who'd have no problem paying for a nice vacation in Miami with SU being a reason to do something during their time down there.
