Because that is the quick slant that was called with a 3 step drop. Its not a play where you look around and go through progressions. And it was there...except the LB made a good read on the hot receiver and jumped it. Sometimes the other team makes a good play. The DB was behind the receiver, so that was the read.

My thought was the throw needed to be made sooner or not at all. I think Ryan takes too long with a lot of his throws although he's improved on that some.
