I'm quite positive Cooney had no idea about the clock until everyone yelled at him to shoot, he looked up saw the clock was about to expire and threw up a prayer, which bounced our way.

JB called it, but Cooney almost botched it. If he didn't get a shot off and hit the rim, The clock stops and UConn has enough time for Purvis to get a 35-foot three off.

It really is Genius deserves a automatic like if you didn't see it coming.

Ball hits rim with 5 seconds left, takes another second just to be pulled down.
The best part is even with it bouncing off the rim like that, we could have fouled them up 3 they only shoot two foul shots.

The ball was in Cooney's hands because our coaches assumed UConn would foul. When they didn't, I think Cooney was dumbfounded, and lost track of the shot clock. The perfect play would have been to wind the shot clock down to about 2 seconds, and then put up a nice 20-footer.

Not necessarily. At that point you just foul the guy before they get the shot off, which has now become the common practice.

He probably expected them to do that eventually, but it's clear he didn't want a shot up until there was :01 on that shot clock if they could manage that. Cooney almost didn't get it off, which would have sucked.

If you can call 17 feet above Tyler Roberson who goes over the top of everybody to get the ball"our way", I guess you're right.

Not really - JB said afterwards that we wanted to run the shot clock ALL the way down, leaving them with only a few seconds (to then have to get the ball all the way down the court, and hoist up a 3.)
And - you can almost guarantee that if UConn had gotten that rebound, he had instructed our guys to foul, rather than even allowing a 3pt attempt.

Cooney thought for sure they were going to foul him - which is what they should have done.
Of course, he was surprised when they didn't, and had to chuck something up before the shot clock expired.

Thankfully, TRobe was there (as per usual) to snag a HUUUUUUGE O-rebound, and seal the win.
