I don't know what was worse, the 1992 Ohio State flashback or Herbstreit's "Little known fact: twenty years ago, Syracuse actually had a kind of good football program" aside.

Did Herbstreit really say that? I was so frustrated I was only catching about half of what was going on at that point in the game.

It wasn't the exact quote, but the tone was very "you might not believe this, but..."

It would have been funny had it not been kind of sad. We all regard that era as the "real" Syracuse football level of play. To others, it's just a random footnote about a mediocre program.

Not really what he said

He said back then that Syracuse had some really athletic teams. Mentioned Graves.

And we did. We were getting the New Jersey recruits that Rutgers is now getting, the ones that don't go to the Big Boys. We basically get Rutgers' leftovers now and it shows.

Maybe Acosta can change that over time in Jersey. Add those with McDonald's recruiting success in Florida and we might actually see an increase in overall team speed and athleticism in three years.

But even if we get the recruits, there is no guarantee that this MAC level staff is up to the task to coach them to where they need to be for us to be a serious threat in the ACC.

We'll see. But I've decided 6-6 is the best we can expect during the regular season for this year and the next two as well.

Cheers,
Neil

Herbstriet actually have us a lot of credit I thought. He said back in the 80's and early 90's going in to the Carrier Dome was really hard. He said it was really loud and the whole team was just athletes. He said it was really hard to win in there cause they had really good football teams. I thought he have credit where credit was do.
