The QB room - 2025 to 2026

i can only imagine that while watching game film monday morning , fran must have sent carney out to the vending machine for a snickers and he came back with a three musketeers. and no change.

Fran and Co have proven they are not going to stand pat.
Fran has said multiple times he will try to recruit over everyone on the team and it's up to the players to keep getting better.
We missed on our backup and we have a TON of youth behind it, it happens when we had literally nothing at QB depth for so long.
I expect them to bring in someone to challenge for QB1 along with Angeli and the young guys. Collins should find a good G5 (or lower) school to transfer to.

I am all in in going after a starting qb in the portal. I have no confidence in Angeli recovering from these injuries. Certainly not in time for us.
It’s a tricky decision because there is no longer a spring transfer window to wait for to see how recovery is progressing. I’m glad I’m not making this decision.

He was the NCAA passing leader in yards, come on. He learned the offense quickly, improved noticeably as we watched, and was a leader the team responded to. That’s the thing, that’s it, that’s the whole of it. Team was starting to excel on offense, WR’s were Mossing guys. I have no doubt that if he’s healthy next year, we’re going on a run.

Now you gotta bring in someone to compete, someone who is ready to start if need be if Angeli is not available. Someone who wants to inherit that NCAA passing leader crown, who is not thrilled with current digs, who sees what McCord did and what Angeli was doing. Arch Manning.
He ran up his passing leader stats against UConn (a game where the offense was lousy for 3 quarters) and Colgate. SU needs to pursue a portal starter or at least a backup who’s played a bunch at a quality FCS program.

Ignoring that Clemson game is really something.

So let's just post his game log.

I was talking about the stats that made him the “passing leader” nationally, which some folks keep touting. Against Clemson he played well qualitatively for 2 1/2 quarters but the stats were average, witness the 79.0 QBR.
Every game contributes to his passing stats. That's the point. 250 yards in 2.5 quarters vs Clemson isnt something you ignore.

Numbers aside. Eye test. Look at the games/plays with him in the games vs not. It's a completely different offense.

Big games against weaker competition contribute to every NCAA passing leader every year. Not sure why you want to attach a qualification when it’s our guy.

Agree completely with your last point.

The context was should SU be looking at other no. 1 quarterback options from the portal.

i'd agree with Willy that the Angeli stats were a very small sample size against marginal opponents .
(clemson is 3-4 overall 2-3 acc) . people stating we'd beat so and so with him under center is really just speculation . not fact ! that said i wish him a speedy recovery. achilles rupture is no fun.

Angelli was starting to roll with the offense. How can u not see that. Each game he improved drastically with reads, throws, and team management. He will be our starter but we need solid backup most definitely.

Well, Dr. the risk is on you then. We have seen what we can do without a qb. And I for one, am not willing to bet on him being ready. We have people on this board that have talked to specialists and have had them tell them that it is at best 50/50. No way do I settle for that. And you and I have no way of knowing. None.
Medical recoveries are always iffy, some recover quickly others never fully recover from the same type of injury.

A player I’d love to bring in is Austin Mack, the backup quarterback at Alabama. He’s a 6’6” talent with a big arm and impressive poise. With Alabama recently landing a five-star, No. 2-ranked quarterback in the nation, Mack likely won’t get the chance to start next year once TY moves on — making him an ideal transfer target. He’d be a perfect fit in this offense, bringing real arm talent, vision, and the ability to make smart reads. And let’s be clear — he’s not another Rickie Collins 2.0. This kid can actually throw the ball, process the field, and deliver consistently — not just rely on size and arm strength
