The reffing

Yep, Oladicko had 11 fouls that I counted. He's like an old school Gtown defender. Plays bump and run and jams the receivers.

Actually, they could have been called for more fouls, but reffing didn't come into play and effect the outcome of the game like we thought it would.

Saturday's game all comes down to the officials. If it's a usual Big East crew of Burr and/or Cahill SU is screwed. If it's guys who don't ref many Big East games Marquette will get called for their clutch/grab style.

It won't be a BE crew...and I thought the refs were excellent last night. We can only hope, they are the same tomorrow!!!!

Its tough because last night (if I read correctly) these 3 officials had never worked a Syracuse or Indiana game yet this season.

Is really poor.
The refs were excellent last night. They had absolutely no impact on the game. Sure, they missed a call or two (like the obvious MCW travel on one of his dunks), but we're talking humans here who aren't perfect.

The last time SU met Marquette, it was in Marquette on a two-day turnaround from the G-Town loss and the refs let that fat load Davante Gardner bull his way around the paint and they called all sorts of ridiculous touch fouls. I don't think SU is going to be caught like that again.

Last night, I thought that, overall, the reffing was mediocre. They were inconsistent on a lot of plays and there seemed to be quite a few make-up calls for both teams. After whistling ticky-tack fouls on Baye and Rak early, they swallowed their whistles and let some rougher play go. But overall, I'd rather have a faster paced game than one that's whistled every 20 seconds.

He also got fouled about 3 times on the way to the hoop. Its funny because when they were talking about it and then they showed the replay it seemed like they kind of backed off the travel because you could clearly see the IU defender grab him like three different times on that play.

Fans of both teams could take issues with last night's crew.

Zeller got mugged more than a few times and nothing was called. MCW might as well have taken a taxi to the hoop on that one drive and there was no call.

However I am of the belief that no matter how bad, the refs don't determine the outcome of the game. The Orange played a lock-down D against a smaller opponent and that my friends was the difference.

I had zero problems with the officials. I don't recall a single anticipated foul call all night.

The missed calls were pretty even last night. I didn't think either team was advantaged due to the refs.

I thought, for once, we got the benefit of some calls that could have went either way.

See, I think we get these a lot. Not on the perimeter, which is where a lot goes down, but we block a ton of shots and have for years, and I feel like we sometimes get the benefit of the doubt when there is contact on a shot block.

There were a few early which had me worried but after that they calmed down and let them play on both ends. They could've called more both ways but at least they decided to call the same game on both sides of the court.

I feel like we get the other end of that coin. Unless we have a known name player in paint, we get called for fouls on alot of clean blocks and don't get the same whistles on the other end.

If the officiating is fairly balanced on Saturday [as opposed to what transpired in milwaukee the first time around], I really like our chances against marquette.

Oh, absolutely. We get away with clubbing people under the basket sometimes.

But, that's the thing - physical play is expected under the basket. It's the price you pay for taking shots right at the rim. It's when that physicality extends to the perimeter that I get cranky.

And trust me, you wouldn't like me when I'm cranky.

Exactly. There were just a few bad calls both ways. Of course I only remember those that happened to syracuse.

What sticks out are the ticky tack hand slaps, which were not called consistently. Those calls could have forced us to play less aggressively, during IUs mini run. The called hand slaps were very weak. And one time IU did the same thing on the other end that was not called .

Now, the refs did let both teams play for stretches, which was great.

Kudos to this Orange squad for playing through it.

Am I the only one that thought the out of bounds play, the one where the IU player dove and seemed to touch the ball going out before it hit the ground out of bounds, was a little shaky? Review would have been nice.

I consider that a make-up for any of at least 3 or 4 travel calls they didn't make on IU earlier in the game when their guards ran like cockroaches with the lights turned on against our zone.

Yeah, I thought IU got away with a couple early that had me yelling a bit.

I thought he touched it too - but the replay was never clear enough for me to tell for sure. So...can't really disagree with the call.

I thought it was pretty clear on the overhead replay that the ball changed its path when he dove reaching for it.
