The Season Isn't Over Thread

Agreed. Totally understand that our coaching is worth talking about. It is. But can we still talk about the season, the players, upcoming games, etc... Feels like we've lost sight of the fact we are in heart of our ACC schedule.

Agreed, there’s a lot of season left. Plenty of good basketball to watch. Unfortunately none of it includes Syracuse men’s basketball.

But you have a lot of great storylines across the country. The freshman class is unreal. Arguably the best ever. There’s about 8-10 truly elite teams that are really talented and fun to watch. Nebraska is an awesome story being in the top 5 despite never winning a tourney game before.

I watched Houston/Texas Tech on Saturday instead of the Cuse game. Was a fantastic decision. When facing choices like that in the future, I recommend others do the same.

We quite literally would almost have to win out to make the tourney. I’m not even joking when I say, we probably have a better chance of losing the rest of our games than we do to make the tournament. That’s the sad reality of where this program is right now
8 out of the 11 would likely do it. They’re almost all Quad 1/2s from here on out so we’d actually have a pretty good profile despite our two Quad 3 losses.

That's what DVR is for.

Duke has nine Quad one wins so far this season. Once upon a time, we had a top program also. But, like most fairy tales, I don't think this year is going to end happily ever after.

But in the spirit of this thread, it's not over until the Fat Lady sings. And I don't think that means the National Anthem performer.

Pretty much Red can still preach a reset because 8-3 with there schedule will get them on a parachute to the tournament barring they take care of business against Notre Dame and Pitt. It would be funny if Red just turns this thing completely around after pretty much everyone including me have been looking at the future and what’s next. Part of me can totally see him locking in and not going out easy.

We could go on an NC State-style run, but that doesn’t make anything said in the other threads any less true. And if we want to consistently go on those runs instead of lucking into them, which should be the Orange Standard, a lucky run doesn’t change what JW needs to do at the end of the season.

Well, Nait would have to play just a little better than Carlos, and Donnie would have to show up for more than a few minutes per game.

The problem with "ultimatum" seasons is that it is high-risk across the board.

The players know the deal and probably play more tight than they otherwise would. In the pre-NIL era, these guys would be playing for PT next year. So fans would be engaged with the season for that reason--seeing the younger guys develop down the stretch, etc. Now the players... they know they might not even be wanted by the next coach... or want to be with the next coach... and the fans know that none of them might be around. So this ends up being like having someone else's 2026-2027 team playing games in our uniforms with their coaching staff. Why would fans want to support that?

And what if the ultimatum works out? Say Red was 17-2 right now. What stops him from remembering that he was put in an ultimatum situation and decides to shop himself around.? At the very least, he gets a big raise and a contract extension. So... now the same guy you gave an ultimatum to because of subpar performance relies on one season to get a long extension. See Norvell in Florida State. They are stuck with each other.

I almost think that if a coach is doing so poorly you have to give an ultimatum year, you might as well just make the change. At least the next season's team is being coached by someone who will be around the following year. As pointless as recruiting can be, it is also pointless to have an entire team/staff that has no ties for the following year.

I've been happy that only once have we been blown off the court this year. That's about the only redeeming quality of the year. Also Kyle was a home run if you just look at the ROI.

The fanbase is sharpening the pitchforks because they are just at their wits end how Autry and these guys just continue to lose 1 possession games.

He's 1-5 now. Even by luck standards you gotta figure Autry can win those games and someone can hit a bucket against lesser competition. Nait George taking it down the court against Houston and throwing the ball at Kyle's feet was just a glimpse of the future I guess.
