I know they're young an inexperienced and errors were expected. But this bad?? At the almost halfway point I think I have to ask...Is this the worst Syracuse secondary in 10...20 years? Right now the best player in that unit is a 170 lb safety. The two players with the most experience, Whigham/Morgan have regressed at an alarming rate to players who shouldn't even be playing.

At least during the GRob era their were a couple of players who were good players stuck in an awful system with zero coaching. Would kill for guys like Anthony Smith, Steve Gregory or even a freshman Damon Merkerson.

If you consider who they've played thus far, they certainly are in consideration for all-time worst. Consider they just got through the weakest part of the schedule. It's hard not to be pessimistic going forward. Lester and the offense need to grow up in a hurry.

It seems like we always have at least 1 REALLY shaky corner (Merkerson's senior season was an exception, though I cannot recall who the other corner was), but we generally have had solid safety play for as long as I can recall.

This year, we have a decent corner (Winfield), a disaster at the other corner (no matter who is in there), a Hobbit at SS who makes a few very good plays per game against the run, and I am left wondering if we even field a FS for half the plays, given their penchant for being out of position/blowing assignments.

Couple that with a non-existent pass rush this year (outside of Thompson's handful of pressures per game), and we are left with a train wreck of a pass defense.

That is a worry. We have seen some glimpses from Winfield. The rest of the guys personally I haven't seen enough from them. Whigham hasn't been the same since the injury.

We have had some decent DBs in the Shafer DC/HC era:

Merk, Holmes, Suter, Phil Thomas, Shamarko, Anderson, Lyn, Reddish, Desir, Esk, Kelly.

The guys we have now remind me more of the Nico & Kevyn Scott types.
