- The horrendous starts came to an end, at least for tonight.

- JJ Starling had one of his good games, even though we totally wasted it. 25 points on 10 for 16 and 5 for 10 from the arc. One complaint: 1 rebound, 0 assists, 0 blocks, 0 steals. Well, he’s a shooting guard so that’s what he does.

- Eddie Lampkin had good numbers: 14 points, 9 rebounds. But how many of those numbers came when the game was getting out of hand.

- Kyle Cuffe had 9 points and should also have been in double figures had he not tried to make Sports Center top 10 with a dunk he can no longer do. Why did he play only 14 minutes?

- We shot the ball well: 54.8 from two, 52.4% for from three and 83.3% from the line. Clemson was 62.9% from two, 45.0% from three and 71.4% from the line. We were out-rebounded by 4. It should have been a competitive game.

9-10 and 14+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!

Net Points

This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed).

JJ Starling game: 14NP in 32 minutes season: 143NP in 421 minutes = 13.6NP/40m
Eddie Lampkin game: 14NP in 34 minutes season: 254NP in 539 minutes = 18.8NP/40m
Jyare Davis game: 7NP in 25 minutes season: 179NP in 427 minutes = 16.8NP/40m
Kyle Cuffe game: 6NP in 14 minutes season: 66NP in 205 minutes = 12.9NP/40m
Jaquan Carlos game: 6NP in 21minutes season: 98NP in 504 minutes = 7.8NP/40m
Chris Bell game: 5NP in 18 minutes season: 109NP in 429 minutes = 10.2NP/40m
Lucas Taylor game: 4NP in 24 minutes season: 69NP in 405 minutes = 6.8NP/40m
Elijah Moore game: 3NP in 11 minutes season: 71NP in 317 minutes = 9.0NP/40m
Petar Majstorovic game: 2NP in 21 minutes season: 45NP in 205 minutes = 8.8NP/40m

Naheem McCloud game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 3NP in 12 minutes = 10.0NP/40m
Donnie Freeman game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 201NP in 355 minutes = 22.6NP/40m
Chance Westry game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: -1NP in 10 minutes = -4.0NP/40m

Why did Cuffe play only 14 minutes? Why did Majstorovic merit 21 minutes when he only had 3 rebounds, 3 turnovers and no points. The distribution of playing time and rotations often seem to have no rhyme or reason. At one point late in the second half SU had five players on the court who had scored around a total of a dozen points while Clemson had three players in the game who had scored more points than all five of our players who were on the court. I think our lineup was Petar, Moore, Bell, Davis and Taylor. It seems like guys who are scoring often aren't seeing enough playing time and then we will have four guys in the game who aren't even taking any shots. Our rotations are driving me insane.

Great points.. I swear sometimes Red subs players like 2nd and 3rd grade biddy ball to make sure guys get minutes
