- Just when you wonder whether it’s worth it to care what this team does, they play their best game of the season and get a big win on the road.
- Everyone contributed – and that’s what we need. Alan Griffin had his best game, getting us off to a great start and making big plays all through the game. He wound up with 22 points on 9/17 shooting, 4/7 from the arc with 4 rbs, 3 steals,(it seemed like more), 2 assists and a black.
- Kadary Richmond overcame a toothache to score 8 points, make 3 steals and pass for 3 assists off the bench while playing was JB acknowledged was excellent defense. he should have consulted with Marek on how to get rid of his tooth.
- Quincy Guerrier stayed in his recent funk in the first half but got back to work in the second, beginning with a follow-up slam off a Buddy Boeheim miss. He wound up with 14 points and 7 rebounds after a 3/1 first half.
- Boeheim shot well, (6/12, 3/5 from the arc) and scored 16 points. He also had a good all-around game with 3 assists, 3 rebounds and a steal.
- Marek didn’t shoot well, (2/7) but had 6 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block. He also played a role in preventing the Big Wolves, (Bates, Hellems and Funderburke), from taking over the game.
- Joe Girard had come bad moments but had 6 points and 5 rebounds. If we are ill-equipped to get rebounds under the basket, we should be well equipped to get long rebounds.
- With Q and Buddy in foul trouble, JB went to Robert Braswell and he had his best game since the first Pitt game with 5 points, 2 rebounds and some good defensive plays.
- Despite the return of Funderburke and that hairdoo, we won the battle of the boards, 32-28, after being down 10-16 at halftime. Put that with +8 in turnovers, (12-20) and you aren’t going to beat us. We’ve won every game where we didn’t get killed on the boards. It was the second straight game we had 20 take-overs.
- If all the games on our schedule are played we will play 23 games. 13-10 would continue our streak of consecutive winning seasons to 51 since we can’t lose more than 2 post season games. We’re very likely to beat BC on Saturday to get to 12 wins. We need one more win in the last 5 to do it. None of those games are gimmies but we should be able to win one of them. Look at what is happening to Kentucky and Duke this year and what happened to North Carolina last year. That hasn’t happened to us since the 1960’s.
