- AJ Long, despite being under pressure, (8 sacks), managed to pass for 307 yards. You can see he’s got the talent. He just needs the experience- and the time. You look at Ismael, Phillips and Franklin on defense and you know the future is bright, even if the present is overcast and drizzly.
- Some veteran players played well. Jarrod West had his best-ever game with 7 catches for 161 yards, (and, amazingly, no scores). Brandon reddish broke up a sure TD pass and made several other players. Micah Robinson has become our best defensive lineman. Adonis Ameen-Moore ran hard and was responsible for most of the few successful running plays we had.
- I was there when Bill Maddox returned an onsides kick for a clinching touchdown against UCLA in 1968. I briefly thought I’d lived long enough to see it again. Those who left early certainly missed some fun. Yes, it was frustrating but we you not entertained by this game?
- I have to feel that, despite the problems, this season is building a foundation for later success. One of our problems is that we play mostly close games and don’t get to play a lot of guys. We’re having to play a lot of guys through injuries and that has a similar impact. Next year’s team is going to be like John Raymon’s injured knee from last season: having to work those muscles in rehab made that his strong knee. That’s what we’ll be next year- a deeper teams because of all the people who have gotten a chance to play this year. Throw in a strong recruiting class and, hopefully, a more digestible schedule, and we should have a strong comeback year.
- But this year isn’t over, (until it’s over). Duke, despite their record, is not impossible to beat. Then we get a week off and can get people healthy again. We’ve competed well, if not efficiently, in every game this year. Things could turn our way. Don’t be one of those who “leave early” in the game or on the season. You might miss something good.

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!
