- This team has had a number of players have strong games. In this one it was Donnie Freeman, Jyare Davis and Jaquan Carlos. In other games Elijah Moore, Eddie Lampkin and the now injured JJ Starling have impressed. If Red can ever get them all going at once, we may get to see what he had in mind in assembling this roster.
- Freeman is an exciting young talent. He’s still raw as hamburger, trying to figure out how to grow into his body, which has shot up to the point where he might become a center rather than a power forward. He’s got some moves and some shots but needs more. He needs to get stronger. But he’s so talented that he’s recording double-doubles anyway, (20/11 in this one). What’s he going to become as he matures? And will he still be wearing orange?
- Davis dropped in 20 points. I was surprised he only had 4 rebounds. But it was his most productive game since he got 22/12 vs. Lemoyne. He’s a guy who can take a lot of advantage of teams focused on other players.
- Jacquan Carlos finally had himself a game, with 8 points, 7 assists, 2 turnovers but 2 steals and a couple of rebounds. I’ll take it every night. His numbers could have been even better if his teammates had converted more off of his passes. That’s been true all year.
- My and everybody’s expectations are so low now that it’s all about looking for improvement and there are signs that these guys could play a lot better than they have. They need to do it as a group and do it consistently.
4-4 and 23+ to go
LET’S GO ORANGE!
Net Points
This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed).
Donnie Freeman game: 23NP in 33 minutes season: 118NP in 211 minutes = 22.4NP/40m
