- Well we proved we can compete with decent power five teams. Those first three games didn’t offer much evidence of that. When Red finds the line-up he’s looking for, with a developing Donnie Freeman and maybe, eventually, a fully healthy Chance Westry, this could be quite a team. But what will be our net ranking when that happens?

- JJ Starling continues to carry the team with a 27 point night. I much prefer his elegant lay-ups and Josh Pace- like floaters to Judah Mintz’s train wreck drives.

- Chris Bell found his shot tonight and scored 22 points. As he gets his confidence back, off of past evidence, the rest of his game improves, as well. It could use it.

- I like Petar Majstororvic. He doesn’t always stop the shooter, (Tech has some talented guys), but he stays on them, which some of his teammates could learn from.

- Jyare Davis somehow never attempted a shot in 12 minutes but everything else was positive: he made both of his free throws, grabbed 3 rebounds and had 2 assists. That’s 7NP with no negatives. Why did he play just 12 minutes?

- Donnie Freeman is very raw but pulled down 13 rebounds in 28 minutes, allowing us to win the battle of the boards, 39-30.

3-2 and 26+ to go

LET’S GO ORANGE!

Net Points

This year I’m going to make things a bit easier on myself and just list the net points in each game after the Upside. Once a month I’ll do a deeper dive into the numbers rather than doing a “Net Points, etc.” post after every game. ‘Net’ points are the positives (points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks) minus the negatives, (missed field goals and free throws, turnovers and fouls committed).

JJ Starling game: 18NP in 37 minutes season: 79NP in 187 minutes = 16.9NP/40m
Chris Bell game: 15NP in 29 minutes season: 45NP in 162 minutes = 11.1NP/40m
Jyare Davis game: 7NP in 12 minutes season: 58NP in 108 minutes = 21.5NP/40m
Eddie Lampkin game: 6NP in 28 minutes season: 82NP in 154 minutes = 21.3NP/40m
Donnie Freeman game: 5NP in 28 minutes season: 59NP in 126 minutes = 18.7NP/40m
Petar Majstorovic game: 3NP in 11 minutes season: 14NP in 27 minutes = 20.7NP/40m
Elijah Moore game: 2NP in 18 minutes season: 8NP in 64 minutes = 5.0NP/40m
Jaquan Carlos game: 2NP in 27 minutes season: 13NP in 144 minutes = 3.6NP/40m
Lucas Taylor game: -3NP in 10 minutes season: 2NP in 71 minutes = 1.1NP/40m
Naheem McCloud game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 1NP in 4 minutes = 10.0NP/40m
Kyle Cuffe game: 0NP in 0 minutes season: 0NP in 3 minutes = 0.0NP/40m

Jyare Davis didn't take a shot last night. That's why he only played 12 minutes. Having a bunch of guys on the court who aren't scoring is a recipe for disaster. Only three Cuse players scored more than five points last night. Davis scored 11 points against Texas and played 28 minutes on Thursday.
