- The first half showed what this team can do when they play hard and well: 11 two points, 5 treys and 5 free throws vs. 4-3-6 for the Hokies. 26 rebounds to 17, 11 -5 assists, 4-0 steals, 4-1 blocks, 2-6 turnovers and a 42-23 lead. Hopefully the team will remember how they did that.

- Trevor Cooney had 14 first half points. He couldn’t duplicate that in the second half but did have an outstanding assist to Tyler Roberson at a key point.

- Rak had 17 points 9 rebounds and 3 blocks. Just another day at the office….

- Ron Patterson had a pretty good game, (despite being 0 for 4 from the arc and 2 for 6 from the stripe). He drove to the basket for three buckets, had 2 rebs, 3 assists and even a block.

- Tyler Roberson likes playing against engineers. He had 14 points and 17 rebounds against Louisiana Tech and 11 points and 17 rebounds today. Georgia Tech better watch out.

- Heck, a win is a win. We’re 10-4 and we got a convoy!

10-4 with 17+ more

LET’S GO ORANGE!!!!

At the beginning of the year, there were serious questions, shading into doubts about everyone on the roster.

Rak:
It didn't appear that Rak had made much progress in three years, particularly on offense. Since our coaching staff can't develop bigs, any reason to expect significant improvement this year?

Trevor: Would he ever come out of his post-ND slump? It didn't appear that he had enough game to contribute when his shots aren't falling.

Tyler: Seemed totally lost last year on both ends of the floor. Again, we are unable to develop bigs. It is possible that we will get nothing from him this year?

Michael: Not much improvement noted since he came. All that talent seems wasted. Will he ever be more than a very limited role player?

Buss: A shaky three-point specialist at best. Destined to be the second coming of Mookie Jones, only shorter. Will play with walk-ons.

Chris: Skinny. Likely to hang around the perimeter chucking 3s, then leave for the NBA. Second coming of Donte Green.

Kaleb: Way out of his element this year. Long and painful learning curve. JB will exhibit symptoms of apoplexy at least four times/game.

I would say that, so far, the returning players have exceeded expectations. Rak has been consistent on both ends of the court. The other four, as well as the Freshmen, have had their moments, even their games. Still don't know what to expect from the freshmen.

All in all, I would judge the performance of the returning players as a strong upside to the early part of the season. In spite of the second half of the VT game, I am a lot more optimistic about the team than I was at the beginning of the season.

That might be the longest post I've ever seen you make.

And I agree with every point. ;)

I thought going in to this year Buss' rep was on the D end, not as a shaky 3 pt shooter

I think that was more the beginning of last season.

I must have missed when the #narrative flipped.

maybe if Buss had hit a few big shots while getting some real PT last year I woulda caught it

I don't recall him hitting any big shots either. But he sure took a lot of 3s while he was playing, 19 in 54 minutes. Made only 6, (.316).
