- We had our usual run that got up our usual big halftime lead but this time we opened the second half with a 15-4 run that put the game away. It makes for a less stressful second half and a better feeling at the end of the game. I really didn’t think we looked like the #1 team in the county the last 3-4 games and I think we did tonight.

- Our defense kept us in the game when we were struggling, (during our 0 for 10 stretch which lasted for 5:17, we went from 12-6 to 12-12). Then our defense broke it open.

-JB used the press for the first time in several games and it made sense to do it against a team whose point guard, Council), had been suspended. That broke it open. We forced 16 turnovers in the first half after forcing only 13 the whole game in Providence.

- We had the kind of stats that got this team it’s reputation: 10 blocks, 12 steals and 22 turnovers forced. As long as we are doing that, we are a great team.

- Scoop Jardine loves playing the Friars. Two games, 20 points, 20 assists and 1 turnover. He also hit a three pointer to end the half for the second straight game. “Good Scoop” is better than good.

- Dion Waiters didn’t have great numbers in this one overall, (12 points in 22 minutes), but he was the one who led the charge during the 15-0 run, scoring 7 points, making 2 steals and getting an offensive rebound.

- CJ Fair didn’t shoot that well but had 9 points, 6 rebounds , 4 assists and 3 steals.

- We talk about how this team could actually get better. The two freshman, Rakeem Christmas and Michael Carter-Williams, both had good games. Rak had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks in 16 minutes and MCW had 4 points and 4 assists in 17 minutes.

- By blowing the Friars out in the first half and not letting them back init, we were able to play reserves for much of the game and keep the starters well rested for the two day turnaround against Pitt on Monday. LGO! It’s time to beat the Panthers for the first time in 6 years!

MCW can be incredible, but his lack of selfishness will hurt him if he doesn't make adjustments. Seems like every game there is at least two or three times where he has a lane to the hoop, and instead of going hard, he backs off or tries to dish. I'm glad he values the assist, I'm glad he feels confident enough to whip the ball into tight spots, and I'm glad he seems to truly enjoy his teammates... but in tight games, I'm pissed if he is reducing the probability of a score by giving up the rock in those situations.

I just wanted to quickly say how much I look forward to reading the Upside / Downside posts after every game, and to thank you for doing these. They always ring true to me, and I think your analysis is very good. I'm sure that for every person that gives you feedback, there are 20 more that are, like me, enjoying in silence. Thanks again.

JB likes scoring point guards. I think you have to make the defense guard you first and that opens up the passing lanes.

Great analysis as always, SWC...whatever happened to the rhyming record you used to end with? ie: 19-0 and 12 to go! For some reason I miss that!!

One play imparticular yesterday was when Dion (I believe) got the ball to a wide open MCW in the corner, instead of shooting the uncontested 3 he drove either charged or got stripped. I still think he's a little hesitant to shot simply because he's a freshman and is afraid to take a "bad shot" and get benched by JB.

But man is his vision amazing. He'll be one of the all time greats here if stays for at least 3 years and continues to develop. Next year's backcourt might be even better with a better MCW, an even better Waiters (wow), Triche and Cooney.

This is the golden age gentlemen, let's sit back and enjoy the ride.

See "Net Points, etc" It's there because it's the last of the three posts I make.
