- Doug Gottlieb is right. This is the worst 31-1 team ever. Kris Joseph, Scoop Jardine and CJ Fair go 2 for 18 but we win anyway.
- We’ve beaten the defending national champions in our place, in their place and at a neutral court. If they don’t’ make the Big Dance, we prevented it.
- We’ve now tied the school record for victories with 31. Let’s break it tomorrow. If we run the table, we’ll have 39 wins, more than anybody has ever had. It’s possible. (And it would be something.)
- People were giving up in the chatroom after that horrible 8-24 run put us down by 31-39. The rest of the game was 27-16, Syracuse. This team doesn’t like to lose.
- James Southerland again gave us a tantalizing look at what he’s capable of, hitting two big threes, scoring 10 points , grabbing 4 rebounds and blocking 2 shots. If he could give us that for each of the remaining games, we’ll be tough to beat.
- Rakeem Christmas is a center, period. And he’s a better one than Baye Moussa Keita. Fair and Southerland are better forwards than he is. I’m glad we finally got that straightened out. Rak had 5 rebounds, two blocks and a dunk in only 8 minutes.
- Dion Waiters seems to be out of his slump. He kept beating everyone to the basket and scored 18 points in 24 minutes. On 8 for 11 shooting. Is that enough of an “offensive dude” for you, Hubert Davis?
- Kris Joseph had a bad game shooting, (1 for 8) but determinedly drove to the basket and got 13 opportunities at the line. I wish he made more than 8 but he got Lamb in foul trouble and held him to 2 points in the second half.
- Stat of the game: 4 turnovers. And our starting point guard played 3 minutes in the second half. How many teams could do that?
- This team is made special by it’s depth. It’s not about injuries, foul trouble for fatigue. It’s about options. Give everybody a shot and see who has the hot hand. Narrowing the rotation to the “best” guys doesn’t make this team stronger. It eliminates what makes us special. If Scoop and CJ don’t have it, bring in Dion and James. “If he can’t do it, someone can!”
- We won’t have to play Georgetown again, (just the team that beat them, Cincinnati). Hopefully the USF-ND winner can pull off an upset in the other semi so we don’t have to play Marquette or Louisville for a third time. Will that help us? I don’t know but the waves may be parting here. How about a Big East record of 20-1? How about beating the Irish in the final? We can dream….
31-1 and 8 to be done….. Impossible is nothing!!!!
LET’S GO ORANGE!!!
