- Ahhh,, the first 14 minutes and 26 seconds. We were going to close out the Big East epoch with consecutive victories over Pittsburgh, Georgetown and Louisville, three teams that had broken our hearts so many times over the years. As a finale we were taking it to that little , Rick Pitino. The ending was going to be like this:

- A week ago, coming off the dismal 39-61 loss to Georgetown, if you had been offered this: You’ll beat Seton Hall and then hold on to win two thrillers over Pittsburgh and Georgetown and build up a big lead on Louisville in the Final but lose, would you have accepted that. Yes, you would. It was a great week in New York with a lousy ending. The way it ended didn’t negate anything that had been accomplished before that.

- If we’d lost to Georgetown, it would have ended that series, (at least as an ongoing rivalry) with a 0-3 sweep by the Hoyas. We lost to Louisville but we will see them again in the ACC.

- CJ Fair had a nice comeback game, scoring 21 points on 7 for 10 shooting. Louisville is strong defensive team but they don’t have an Otto Porter.

- James Southerland had quite a week in New York. He used to be known as a “November player”, who built up big numbers against the bad teams we played early but faded once the going got tough. But when the team needed a boost he set a BET record by going 19 for 33 in his specialty: the three pointer. And they were nearly all from beyond NBA range. He’s quite a weapon when he’s on. Let’s hope he stays that way.

- Baye Moussa Keita, a 49% free throw shooter pushed his streak to 11 in a row, (while his teammates were embarrassing themselves at the stripe), before finally missing when it no longer mattered.

- Michael Carter-Williams collapsed with everyone else down the stretch but he had been brilliant before that and he still wound up with 11 points, 9 assists and 5 rebounds.

- Hopefully the ACC refs will believe in real basketball, not the WWF stuff we have endured in the Big East for years. I know Duke gets all the calls but at least we won’t be playing their wrestling team and Louisville and Pitt may find they won’t get away with what they’ve been doing any more.

- No this isn’t one of the worst teams in the Boeheim Era. That debate just became irrelevant.

- We beat the 17th ranked team in the country, the 5th ranked team and had the 4th ranked team on the ropes. The teams we will play next week won’t be anywhere near as good as this and we may not see defensive teams as good as this at any level of the tournament unless we play another Big East team.

26-9 is pretty fine.

LET’S GO ORANGE!
