After a very disappointing and concerning exhibition slate now it all counts.

Monday’s game is where the tone gets set on what this staff and roster is going to be about. If there is not an effort to be even more aggressive than the last 8 mins vs Pace then all of the critics, myself among them were unfortunately onto the reality of what’s to come.

I hope that the message gets through that everyone, especially this fan base, demands to see passion and tenacity putting on that uniform and a willingness to do what it takes to win every game and punish anyone who isn’t up to the challenge, especially in the dome.

If any of these guys want to seriously play at the next level winning is absolutely paramount as is fighting hard every single possession. Prove that these first two warm ups were not what this program is going to be about.

I don’t care if it takes giving coach Rob a promotion and have him talking in every timeout or forcing any low energy coaches and players to keep their warmups on and sit at the end of the bench pouting. Enough is enough.

Sincerely - a very pissed off alum, small but consistent donor and lifetime fan.

So I wonder if all - and there won’t be many, but enough - the fans at the game start yelling and encouraging from the opening tip if that will help get their juices flowing? Usually we are somewhat lackadaisical until they start showing us something. Are we going to need to be the ones to show THEM something? By god, I’ll do it!

Some of these players are new to the amount of money they are receiving. Money sometimes makes people relax. The more money you give someone the more relaxed they get. That doesn't work too well in sports, does it? Hopefully they can, individually, and as a group, bypass this tendency. They need to stay hungry, or they eventually will be hungry.

Or, on the other hand, its also difficult in new surroundings, so hopefully they settle in, and see the possibility and excitement of greatness.

You can make a case maybe that young guys don't know how to handle money, but to translate that to meaning they don't play as hard is the logic the wealthy use to justify their hoarding, and that's just not an accurate world view, even though it's the one often at play.

Such BS. Work ethic, competitiveness, pride, etc., are ingrained early, if not innate. No one is taking it easy because they got some NIL.

I'm not confident we will ever be a stellar defensive team. With that said I think we need to maximize our offensive capability. Going by firepower and maximal ceiling, I think the following five would be what I would like to see for the majority

Freeman
White
Betsey
2G Anthony or Kingz > Starling
PG George

I like it. JJ imo needs to sit every time he misses a shot.

And that’s not a knock against him as a player. That’s just his game. We’ve watched him for close to a hundred games now. When he’s on and getting to the rim or his shot is falling then it will keep falling. When he’s misses that first jumper or he doesn’t finish at the rim the first time, his focus just goes out the window on both ends.

Betsey has to show us more. I’d say Kyle still has plenty of upside to me when the matchup is right too.

I think JJ should sit when he lets guys go by him for layups like last game. Either he has poor defensive IQ, or it’s just lack of effort. He also gives wide open 3 looks.. ok with him taking open shots and getting to the rim assuming he plays D

Have you seen Anthony’s defense? I hope you don’t expect him to come in and help defensively.

JJ is playing to get a contract at the next level, heck a lot of our guys should be doing that. Whether NBA or elsewhere pro scouts want guys who can play two ways. At this point his college bag means nothing.

imo it has racist overtones as well.

What I would like to see are:

  • transition baskets from our Guards/Small forwards.
  • Guards/Small Forwards not cheating all the time and make sure to come back for the rebounds.
  • Solid defending up top (if beaten off the dribble, herd the player into a double team)
  • Weakside defensive help from the forwards
  • give the ball to point guard to limit turnovers

Offensively, we should be fine against our southern foe. The five points above are the key to Orange being good this year.

My Mantra for the year is "Dont let Good be the Enemy of Great"
It's about accepting that "good enough" is often sufficient and can be the best choice when the pursuit of perfection would cause delays or paralysis

Its not a perfect team but lets be good first.

I want to see

# No defensive breakdowns resulting in easy layups and wide open three-pointers

# Complete domination off the glass, both offensively and defensively. Should have huge advantage rebounding. No second shots for Binghamton

# Transition offense and easy buckets

# Plenty of pick and roll and good shot selection. Freeman on the high post. With Sadiq in at same time

# No stupid last second shots as the shot clock winds down needlessly. Let's see what George can conjure up in a real game. Would like to see some real semblance of an offense with purpose

Ever since the first Colgate loss a few years back every team, D2 or bottom of the Net has come into the dome with an aura of confidence expecting to win, not just compete, but win. We’ve done nothing since then to eliminate that and make the dome and playing SU something a team legitimately has concern and fear that translates on the court. Confidence translates all the same which we see now constantly just like with Pace. That dominant stretch the last 9-10 minutes and the first 2-3 against Pace has to be the norm to not only win but to re establish that respect.

I won't be explaining dog whistles to you on the main board.

Feel free to Google it or message me.
I don’t need your explanation, I’m fully aware of what you are trying to say. I gave my opinion.
