Reporters can be idiots. They guy is in the final 4 so why the hell would he want to talk about retiring or have anything to say about retiring?

I hope to get 20 great years out of Red then we can start the retirement conversations again. In the meanwhile I won’t miss them here.

This article is all I know about it.
But there's no indication he was asked by a reporter.

And one reason a reporter might ask an idiotic question (besides the fact that he or she is an idiot) is that idiotic questions often yield good answers.

So, for example, suppose someone said to Larranaga, "Coach, youre 73 years old. What do you say to people who believe you sould be thinking about retirement?"

That could get a great response from Larranaga.
Maybe funny...maybe fiery...maybe disgusted.
But something that might play well in the story.
