Nor is compliance, ethics, judgment, attention to detail, public relations, consideration of out of town donors, etc...

The guy was an abomination from day one. Half this board wanted to knight him, and he ruined the program. The 10 years he was here was worse than any decade in quite some time, and the future he left was bleaker.

Gross didn't ruin the program. Others were responsible for that.

He made a lot of mistakes but you have to give him credit for a lot of things: (1) he immediately replaced the Dome AstroTurf; (2) he immediately installed Field Turf practice fields; (3) he renovated Manley for football use; (4) he improved the Football Office Complex; (5) he made a number of amenity improvements to the Dome etc.

And, he did other things - he built the Melo Center and he greatly improved SU Olympic sports.

He had his short comings - he was not a detail guy - he was not that good with follow-up and he clearly enjoyed mingling with the SU aristocracy rather than the people.

Coyle will be an improvement and I truly believe the Football Program will flourish under his leadership.

Yes, it was about 40k. But it's going to be apples to oranges. While attendance is certainly down this year, Gross counted tix sales and distribution. Coyle insists on turnstile count. We have talked attendance for several years needing to be better. Some of those games last year we weren't close to the number announced. Not as bad as this year but still not what it should be.

I know there is some sarcasm in your statement. I personally, absolutely, HATE the wave, but the ridiculous fact of the matter is, the typical, fair weather, just show up once a year for a big game fan, LOVE the wave, it's embarrassing! I remember a game maybe 10 years ago, we were playing I think, Florida St., we scored, which still left us behind by I think 10 points or two touchdowns, and these imbeciles were doing the wave, and celebrating like we were kicking their a**! It was truly embarrassing to be surrounded by numerous State fans!!
