Rutgers and Nebraska each have less than 10 NCAA Tourney appearances.

I suspect the reason Rutgers might be there is because they are higher interest this year due to their two high profile NBA Draft prospects.

As an aside, the two Rutgers frosh are playing well at 20+ppg, but freshman will almost always have some flaws in their game... can't expect freshman to turn your program into an automatic tournament team, especially in the portal era.

I suppose. But it's not like there is an expectation of Rutgers in the Big Dance.

*cough* us next year *cough*

I suppose. But it's not like there is an expectation of Rutgers in the Big Dance.

Rutgers was making it in 2020, made it in 2021 and 2022, and was expected to make it at the start of 2025. Syracuse made it in 2021 and had no such expectation for 2025.

It hurts to admit this, but at this point, on the court Rutgers is a more notable exclusion from the tournament than Syracuse. Their recent success and current season expectations bears that out. The 80's, 90's and 00's are irrelevant in this regard.

And unless we make changes heading into next year, that might remain the case for a few more seasons. After each additional middling year, our great history becomes less and less impactful on our current and future outlook.
