JIM HUNT (October 5, 1938 – November 22, 1975) 5-11 255 defensive tackle/end
Jim must have faced Wayne Hawkins on many occasions, (originally the AFL had only 8 teams so they each had to play each other twice, regardless of division). You don’t see too many 5-11 linemen any more but the whole idea is to get “under” the man across the line to you so it may have been an advent age to Jim. He played for the Patriots from 1960-70. They didn’t keep track of tackles in those days but Jim recovered 8 fumbles, one for a touchdown and scored a safety. He had an unofficial 29 sacks, 9 in 1966 and was voted the AFL’s best pass-rusher in 1967 and was a four time all-star. But his greatest day came on 11/1/63 when he closed out a rousing 45-3 triumph over the Houston Oilers by rumbling 78 yards with a pass thrown by George Blanda’s back-up, Jackie Lee. I love it when the big guys get their moment of glory and that was Jim’s. He died at age 37 of a heart attack.
