Things to root for in March Madness

here's someone you guys can root for along with me. My college buddy Billy Coen is head coach at Northeastern and they play William and Mary tommorow night (monday) for the CAA championship and an invite to the big dance.

He has been there almost 10 years leading a revival of their program, GREAT GREAT person, good coach and balanced leader who does things the right way. He hired another friend of mine and his (his mentor and former college coach) Tom Murphy who just also happens to be good friends with JB over the years. Coach Murphy led our Alma mater Hamilton college for over 30 years with a .700 winning percentage, many championships and tons of all americans.

He was unceremoniously let go years back now because they couldn't handle prosperity and deemed him too old, and that's when Billy hired him for his knowledge and guidance. Together they have led the Huskies to the precipice of their first tourney invite in almost 25 years. This is a Cinderalla to root for.
Uh-Oh...I'm pulling for W&M. Should be a great year for whichever one wins.

I will root for Jim Nance to tell the truth about Pay Pal Cal.

He took three teams to the Final Four...really? Open the record book and show me the first two...

He needs to mention that the first two appearances were expunged.

I'm rooting for Kentucky to get to syracuse so I can get top dollar for my tix. As soon as the transaction goes through they can burst into flame for all I care.
Typically I root for John Beilein teams (well, except that one game...) but barring a miracle Michigan isn't going anywhere.
And then whoever plays Georgetown

Kentucky won't be in the Syracuse region.

I love to root for Beilein as well.

Next best would be Duke-- worst case would be Virginia.
I think Duke is definitely getting the South region. Probably Virginia or Nova I bet in Cuse.

Just a bunch of crazy upsets so big programs can feel bad. The more painful the better.

/not bitter at all

how bout them Huskies! Up 20 with 6:29 to go, looking good. Neat story with a kid named Donnelly, was on the club team, walked on to team and is lighting it up this game.

And how about the way the refs let things go at this level. Like it.

Edit: Holy cow what an ending, Huskies win! If they're placed in Syracuse I'm going to be recruiting a bunch of you to put on the Husky red and black and root em on! Such a great story what gone on over at Northeastern and what's been accomplished, you all would love HC Bill Coen. Now gotta hope they're put in the East regional. Big news this is in our world. First tourney in 25 years, Woo Hoo!

Hate to be the bringer of harsh reality, but they'll have to win (at least) 2 games to make it to the Dome.

I didn't know where else to drop this. But since this seems to be a more or less general March Madness thread...

I cannot believe this is a D1 gym:

I cannot believe this is a D1 gym:

When I went to Mercer, the team still played some of their games in a 70 year old on-campus gym with a capacity of 500. Yes - 500! My high school gym was twice as large. Bill Hodges, yes of Larry Bird fame, was our coach at the time. I have no idea how he recruited anyone after they saw our facilities.

I cannot believe this is a D1 gym:
A number of schools in the small eastern leagues--American East, MAAC, Northeast--have similar facilities.

On a side note, they mentioned that Craig Robinson's daughter is on the undefeated Princeton team. Who would also be niece to the President.
