It's been nine long years since SU saw a regional final. Since that special 2003 season, the following 35 college basketball programs have made at least one Elite 8 appearance since then (the 16 multiple participants have the quantity in parenthesis):

Davidson
Saint Joseph’s
Georgetown
VCU
George Mason
Pitt
Baylor
Oregon
Georgia Tech
Alabama
LSU
Missouri
Kansas State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Illinois
Tennessee
Wisconsin
Ohio State
Butler (2)
Xavier (2)
West Virginia (2)
Villanova (2)
Texas (2)
Arizona (2)
Duke (2)
Florida (3)
Memphis State (3)
Louisville (3)
UCLA (3)
Kentucky (3)
Michigan State (3)
Connecticut (4)
Kansas (5)
North Carolina (5)

If that doesn't humble you as a Syracuse fan, I don't know what does.

Enough around. Syracuse has to beat Wisconsin no matter what it takes.

I'm sure she'd be ready and willing. She needs work.

I'm not sure what this means exactly. Thirty five strikes you as an unacceptable number that should humble us. I'm curious what an acceptable, non-humbling number is.

How many programs have been to 4 sweet 16's since 2003?

Fun with numbers. How many of those wildly successful programs that made it to the elite 8 since we did have ever won a NC? Can you also tell us of the 337 D1 teams, how many have never won a NC? How many of those 337 coaches haven't won 800+ games? How many aren't in the HOF?

I hear you, 35 is arbitrary for sure.

What irks me (not sure if it should, but it does) is to see the (multiple times) listed for schools like UNC, UConn, Kansas, Michigan State, Memphis, Arizona, etc. In my mind SU is every bit the "brand equal" of those schools, and not having appeared even once, during a time of fantastic recruiting success, while schools like Louisville have been there 3 times, is quite disappointing.

It's really the biggest black mark on JB's decade of success.

It means...we're due.

Come on, it's legit to point out that for all of our great regular season success, and our amazing NC run, that we've been "stuck" in terms of tourney success for the past 8 years. It's not shameful or anything, but it's legit to point it out.

The numbers weren't really my point. Just that some people will only point out the negative.

Geez, so we're back to bashing anything perceived as "negative". I thought the board had it's fill of that 24 hours ago.

*edit* My point is that not EVERY post needs a 4 paragraph preamble that polishes JB's knob before the poster makes a statement that isn't glowing.

Nevermind, you don't get it.

I find the double dips for Xavier, Butler, West Virginia and Nova to be more disheartening than the ones you mention because I consider us to be vastly superior to those programs, yet ...

How many of those made it to the Final Four. Sure I could do the research, but I'm a lazy bastard.

Completely agree.

some other variables to look at.. how many teams had NBA players that led a run, who did they beat. its all about matchups, always is. 10 loss teams lose 30% of the games in a season make the final 8 and sometimes win it all, it only takes 3 games to do it and even marginal teams sometimes play well for 7-8 days.

teams like USF/VCU go from bubble to almost sweet 16 are they suddenly world beaters or just found the right teams to play at the right time.

Fair point. Although in some ways one might chalk those up to "lightning in a bottle" type situations where a school gets a uniquely talented group together for a couple years and capitalizes, then falls back to Earth.

It's when I see similar selector-schools like SU getting to that round multiple times while we don't that it stings.

I know there are a million ways of looking at this, and there's no denying SU's crazy level of success over 4 decades, but it still irks me that we've been to just two Elite Eight's in 21 years. Feels like it should be more.

There are almost 350 schools in Division I. And of all the schools on your list, only five won the NC in that time frame.

Getting to the Elite 8 means nothing to me. We're in it to win it. Final Fours are a little different because you actually win a Regional, but still nowhere near as satisfying as winning it all.

Yep - that's me! Nothing but negativity from this guy.

For 's sake, bees...get a grip.

Perhaps you should make a list of schools that have won National Championships in the last 10 years and then see how how you feel.

I must have missed your posts after the big KSU win, or probably most wins. There's just some people who never see the good and only point out the bad. Nothing wrong with being happy with a win or a positive thing either.

I'd say a little of both.

I also think just because a team happens to be "on the bubble" doesn't mean they don't have the potential to break out into a great team.

It's all about how a team is playing March.

It's more matchups than how a team is playing

Cowherd asked Bilas about how great Flordia was playing.

..and Bilas rightfully explained they got a hideously easy draw in Virginia as prob the worst 10 in the tourney and, after Missou lost, Norfolk was clearly checked out after the 1 win.

I don't think Flordia "got hot" any more than they faced the easiest run in the tourney.

I don't post as often as I used to because life gets in the way more than it did 5-10 years ago. That must mean I'm "negative."

For the record, this thread wasn't mean to focus on the negative. It was to be used more as a way to get fans fired up and pumped for Thursday. Perhaps you shouldn't focus so much on the negative.
