THIRTY-FIVE programs have made the Elite 8 since SU's last appearance in 03

Boeheim's only been to the Elite 8 four times as head coach but on the bright side, we went to the championship game 3 of those years.

Perhaps you should make a list of schools that have won National Championships in the last 10 years and then see how how you feel.

Yes, I enjoyed our 2003 championship.

Yes, I wish given the high seedings we've enjoyed since then we had more than a couple of Sweet 16 exits to show for it.

I don't post as often as I used to because life gets in the way more than it did 5-10 years ago. That must mean I'm "negative."

For the record, this thread wasn't mean to focus on the negative. It was to be used more as a way to get fans fired up and pumped for Thursday. Perhaps you shouldn't focus so much on the negative.

Or it means you have nothing nice to say.

Nothing pumps me up more than a list of teams that have won three games in a given tourney since 2003. That should be JB's pre-game speech. He could have Howard Dean read your post. YEAH!!!!

High seedings? Not one SU team since 2003 was supposed to make the Final Four. Not one.

I assume you're not counting the 2009-2010 team because of AO's injury, despite their #1 seed.

Well, yeah. Had the committee known AO was going to be out the whole tournament, we would not have received a #1 seed.

I don't mean to be mean or sound "negative" but you no what they say about excuses... they are like s, and they all stink.

That's beyond absurd. The AO injury isn't an excuse, it's a fact.

Peyton Manning should have been MVP last season, because the Colts couldn't win without him. That's not an excuse, it's a fact.

And before you say that Manning is this and AO is that...neither team was built to contend without those guys.

Aren't we talking about Elite Eights?

And we seem to be underachieving a bit relative to our seeds, no?

2011 we were a #3 and lost to an #11

2010 we were a #1 and lost to a #5

2009 we were a #3 and lost to a #2 (played to seed)

2008 and 2007 N.I.T.

2006 we were a #5 and lost to a #12

2005 we were a #4 and lost to a #13

2004 we were a #5 and lost to an #8 (overachieved though by beating #4)

That's 6 appearances and 5 losses to lower seeded teams. We only overachieved once (although still lost to a lower seed in sweet sixteen) and played to seed once.

I'm not trying to be negative, but it's just darn frustrating, that's all.

I would say 2010, 2005, and 2004 were the bad losses.

2006 was a shitty team. 2011 was a conference game, throw out seed

Interesting thing...one's own thinking. What your original post stated was purely fact, yet somehow contrued by some as "negative." Is it negative or just reality/realism? Ultimately, I presume it all depends again on each's own thinking...fwiw, I see your factual post merely keeping things real...leaving the "kitchensinking" out of the equation and for the esteemed condescending psychologists to ponder... ;)

This. And we didn't have AO in 2010. So I would say two bad losses. You would have more of a gripe with the NITs, Scooch.

And to reiterate, I couldn't care less about Elite Eights. We hear a lot about the three FFs. We don't hear much about the fourth EE.

You can't get to the final four unless you first get to the Elite Eight. If we had more Elite Eight's we'd at least have given ourselves more opportunities to have more Final Fours.

The problem with all these discussions is everyone has different criteria on what makes a great season. For some, getting to the Sweet 16 in itself means a great season. Others, Final 4 or bust. I also find a lot of people on here put more emphasis on the regular season than others. And that's completely fine because that satisfies their fandom. We win the Big East this year and it's already a great season, the tournament is just the icing on the cake. Different people think differently so I beg you all to shut up about how we've underachieved in the tournament yet overachieved in the regular season and blah blah blah. Enjoy the ride.

3 sweet 16's in 4 years has only been done one other time under JB. 1987-1990. losing to Marquette last year still pisses me off, could've been the first time SU had 3 sweet 16's in a row.

Winning one extra game guarantees nothing. So you're saying you wouldn't criticize JB if he won one extra game each year, but not two? Simply because it would give us the opportunity to win two? Every year we make the tournament, we have an opportunity to get to the FF. Either we get there or we don't. Nobody uses Elite Eight appearances as a benchmark.

Check the list. How many of those schools have been to the FF?

Is it just me or is this thread a waste? Who cares about the last 9 years . They are history-over-done. Things happen each year. Match-ups, injuries and suspensions like this year. In 2003 SU won the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP!!! First time that's ever happened in my life time (and I assume yours) and I was a student and fan when JB played. This is also so first year that the Orangemen won 31 regular season and BE tournament games in my life time-yours??
I like to look forward and not backward. I also don't mind negative posts about the team and players-some are justified all are simply opinions.

This team has given us a great season and I want it to end with a NC-which will be tough-but the team is tough and they have proven that. We are going to face a very tough Badger opponent on Thursday. If we win and make the 8 will this thread ever be seen again. Yes-for it will be how many times to the final four over 10-20 years. It doesn't matter.

Root foe the Cuse Thursday and hope for a W.

nobody uses the elite 8 as a benchmark, but playing in an elite 8 game is special. the goal of most teams is to make the final 4, then once you get there anything can happen and you cant really call the season a disappointment if you dont win it all. but the final 4 is a huge event, its the world series and super bowl of college hoops. to play in a game with that on the line is truly a memorable game. as fans, to have only experienced that type of game less than a handful of times is very disappointing. sweet 16 games dont have the same magnitude as an elite 8 game, it would be nice to experience that type of game more than once a decade.
