This board is such a "small-world" place...

My 87 year old grandfather ALL4SU posts here too.

;) Don't think that this gets you back into my Will. I'm leaving everything to the Orange Pack.

BTW, speaking of small world stuff, a while back I started exchanging PM messages with another poster here. We found out we grew up in the same town at the same time, and shared many of the same experiences growing up. It took me several weeks and dozens of email messages before I realized I was communicating with myself through another screen name I had created previously. Damned Alzheimers!

Cali is my Godfather...I mean, The Godfather.

Her college roommate used to babysit me in DeWitt.

Here is the really crazy part of that story. My roommate/Bill's babysitter (who is sadly deceased) had a brother whom I did not know. Two years ago, at a party in Salt Lake City after the Butler game, I am talking to a guy and I discover he's my roommate's brother. But that is not the most amazing part of the story. I also discover that he's also a very good, very proficient poster on this board! (SoBristol).

So here I am, 2000 miles from home, and I randomly meet the brother of my roommate ... who is also a poster whom I respect on this board.

I've often wondered if I actually know or have met anyone from the board without realizing it, or if anyone here knows any members of my family since my dad was one of seven kids raised in Marcellus, and the majority of the family still lives either there, Baldwinsville or actually in Syracuse. I've got boatloads of cousins all around the area, and an aunt and uncle who have been season ticket holders for at least 20 years (their seats are up above the tunnel; they were shifted when the luxury box was added up there).

Too funny. Geez, I barely post here compared to most folks, but over the years I've nonetheless learned that my spouse works at the same place as Mason and that I went to high school with Marsh's brother.

And like Bill Orange, my house number growing up was 229. Which must mean . . . something.

So Florence lived next to both of you! So cool

One time, about 7 years ago.....never mind, that wasn't me.

But, I am now more convinced than ever that several of you who post here, and/or your relatives/roommates/babysitters, owe me money.

My sister-in-law was sitting in an airport one time and noticed the guy sitting next to her was watching a ND-SU FB game on his device. She struck up a conversation, beginning with "My brother-in-law is a huge SU fan" and after going around and around, they discovered I knew CTO and he served on SU committees with CTO. It truly is the 6 degrees of CTO (h/t to Cuseregular).

starting to become the six degrees of CTO here! ;)

If it wasn't for Joyce, I never would have known that I worked at the same company with Cheriehoop. And that's no lie because we work in different areas. Yet another friendship Joyce fostered through the site.

No. No one knows you.

Would it help if I said I've been to the real Cheers? Please don't tell me the theme song was full of lies.
The song was true. Watch again and listen closely - when most are yelling "NORM!", one lone barfly in the back is yelling "JEKELISH!"

Truth.

I've had a few of those "oh you post on syracusefan.com" moments. A few I remember were a co-worker, 2 cousins and my bro in NYC who has never posted but always lurked. The funniest was one of my cousins who had mostly lurked for year but posted occasionally. We were at a family event talking SU sports (it's all my family talks about) and somehow we got around to internet forums. She asked me if I posted on any and I said syracusefan and she said she had always followed that board and posted once in awhile. She then asked me if I knew anyone on the board and I told her I knew plenty of people. She asked if I knew Jake...Yep. Then she asked me if I knew Bees...:)

BTW 690, you're one of her favorite posters. ;)

I remember the very first person I met from the board in the way way early days was Tomcat. We decided to meet at a smoke filled Gino & Joes on Old Liverpool Road and share "info". Very clandestine.

But my favorite "meeting" wasn't a random encounter and was actually pre-planned. It was in the early days of this "community" but I don't remember where we resided at the time (I know it was post AOL). Several of us who really didn't know each other planned to meet at the bar at the Sheraton up on the hill (may have been called something else then). Besides myself there was CTO, Tomcat, Jake, Cheriehoop (and her husband Jimhoop :) ) and IGOR. I think that was it and sorry if I forgot someone. I think maybe a couple people may have met each other before (CTO and Cherie?) but I'm not sure. I know it was the first time I met anyone other than Tomcat that 1 time. Good times for sure.

Originally from Armonk, NY., but have lived in Southport, CT, for close to 30 years.
Wow CTO - i've been lurking on this board following all your posts (and others) for about 8 years or so from Fairfield. Just off Mill Plain Road. Very small world.

I have at least two high school friends on here. Didn't know it until after about five years of posting.

After finally joining Facebook, I noticed an admin here pop up on another high school friend's wall. She works with his wife. Had a similar Facebook incident with mill house.

One of the neater small world moments for me, a friend of seven years from Denver, whom went to my wedding and met my holland, Michigan cousin at my wedding, many years later it turned out her sister and my cousin were neighbors and best friends in holland. And we did not make the reconnection until later in, you guessed it, Facebook.

It was a great time and the first time I had met anyone in person. What a crew. I had spoken to CTO offline a few times and I had written Tomcat years before when he did an SU recruiting blog (were they even called that back then?). Another funny connection - my middle son went to school with Bees' son growing up and had even been to our house but Bees and I had never met. I knew Igor only through his posts from way back when. Igor even got banned from a Knicks message board while John Wallace played for them. Memories.

I've been meaning to ask Tom, what ever happened to that RB that was suppose to transfer here from Washington? :)

What happens in Salt Lake doesn't stay in Salt Lake?
