For fock's sake, everyone needs to settle down and get a good night's sleep. For starters, I am disgusted and shocked with the abysmal result like everyone else on here, but no need for some of these comments. We came out flat and needed to be aggressive on offense to start this game IMO. We were way too conservative and then our defense got bitchslapped all day long. In the 2nd half, Lester opened things up and we moved the ball pretty well in the 3rd quarter. Just needed that effort for the whole game.

We needed this game and needed it in a bad way. The momentum has been killed, but that certainly does NOT mean the season is over. We still have 7 games left and many of them are winnable.

I hope some of you bridge jumpers read this before you make the leap. This is a young team that has potential and can still get bowl eligible. Shafer isn't getting fired tomorrow and we get a chance to redeem ourselves against UVA next weekend.

Believe me, I have no voice left and my blood pressure is likely a smooth 190/115, but this loss doesn't mean the world is ending. Did we really need this win? Yep, but we're still 3-2 and have a lot more opportunities for redemption.

yep gotta allow for a "bad game" and week and especially when young kids are in fla. this can all happen. Nothings changed in the sense that this is a 6 win potential team (1 more or one less possibly) and that is still possible. I just turn it off for bits and pieces and toward the end when things are falling apart and it helps keep the sanity. No need to jump ship or give up on what we hoped for to begin with here (the one drag is of course we've doomed attendance of the bandwagon fence sitters but oh well, not a shocker).

I agree. Add to the fact that no cohesion because of the injuries. I liked what i saw if we can clean up the defense and continue to improve on offense, which we should. It was just frustrating that usf ran like 3 plays and we couldnt stop it.

Generally I would agree if these two games were reversed.

Playing after a bye, against a poor team, and to show up like that is disconcerting.

Now we have a conference game on the road on a normal week.

the stance of splitting these two had some merit when the loss wasn't to the AAC team.

Hugely disappointed in the staff more than anything.

It's only a game though, and as much as i was let down today, I still believe we get to six, we need to.

Down down the field! LGO!

I guess I disagree that USF is a poor team. They got some great speed, made some good plays and Taggart outcoached Shafer.

I agree about our staff though. The kids looked flat and frankly timid most of the game. So confused why, but I remain confident this will be fixed for UVA.

Lastly, it looked like we had alot of guys go down with injuries. Wasn't sure if they were mainly cramps, but man. A few of our key players and both starting OT's.

We all probably got ahead of ourselves after LSU. I honestly thought we would beat USF and lose to Virginia, simply due to their respective offensive strengths versus our defense's strengths/weaknesses (post USF, I'm wondering just what the hell those defensive 'strengths' are ). Now we need to find a way to steal that UVA game to get us back on track. I like our chances against Pitt and BC at the Dome. I'm not so confident we can steal one at either NC State or Louisville, but in college ball you never know!

It was cramps I am sure...it was hot and fairly humid and the field was in the sun most of the game...players were not ready for that. At halftime USD had their players doing some basic loosening exercises...our players did nothing. I believe the heat was a big factor for us, especially our defense. USF recognized that and moved to a hurry up offense to take advantage of the weather...

But... but... I was crucified for saying the dome does not prepare the team for tropical conditions. You must be wrong, sir.

Out of LVille, NCST and UVA, none of those wins would be steals IMO. We gotta find a way to win 6-7 games.

The freshman miscues everyone was worried about all week with Dungey showed during this game. He still has absurd potential, but they need to stop letting that kid run the ball. He got lit up several times yesterday.

That's not what you said. You said the dome was a dry heat.

Sorry, but USF had 6 plays they ran and beat us with. Their QB couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from two feet away.

Do they have a couple of playmakers? Yes, but every team does. We got beat - and beat pretty badly - by a 4-8 team in an inferior conference. And our head coach, by your own admission, got outcoached by a guy who is 24-41 as a head coach and 8-21 over his last three years.

Could it be youth and their first road game? I can buy that. But a lot will be shown next week as to that line of thinking.

Maybe I am reading too much into what I saw in the UVA/Notre Dame game, but their string bean of a QB really impressed me. He strikes me as the type who will have a career day against us (that isn't a risky prediction, given that every team's QB does...but I think he picks us apart).

I hope I am wrong, and the defense gets it's act together, but that game is one I think we will need to put up 28+ to win. If we play aggressively on O from the opening kickoff, we can definitely do that.

If you're going to bring in last year's records, then a 4-8 team just beat a 3-9 team. Last year is not this year.

Yes, Shafer got outcoached. Doesn't take away that USF is a good team.

Every time they lose people freak out pretending like people are freaking out over the loss. I don't think many people are freaking out over the loss though

I wouldn't say USF is a "good" team but I do find it funny that leading up to the game, a lot of people in here were saying "Hey, they played FSU and Memphis tough, they won't be a gimme" and now, when we lose to them, suddenly everyone is saying "USF blows, I can't believe we lost!"

Guess we'll see at the end of the year. But we are going to have to agree to disagree that USF is a good team. They are not.

USF will probably not make a Bowl. Taggart (who has thus far not been a good HC) isn't a good sign.

I'm still trying to figure out what comments were so out of line in your eyes that you needed to play board white knight. No one is calling for the coach's head (maybe Reed) and although people have expressed disappointment in certain players I didn't see anything that was too out of the ordinary after a loss. Maybe some posts were deleted that I didn't see. :noidea:

This was a loss in a game that fans had in the win column before we played. I don't think the team thought that as well but they didn't seem to want it as bad as USF and the result is a lopsided loss to a team many believed was inferior. Now the team has to steal a game that we didn't anticipate. Seven games left but none look to be as "sure thing" as this USF game was that I kept reading about.

I'm still driving 8 hours to UVA this week and I hope to commence in some celebratory tailgating afterwards. ;)

it is a dry heat relative to what they get in Florida. indoor heat vs outdoor heat. We get maybe 10 days per summer that rival the Deep South. I'm talking 70s dew points.
