With all due respect, Ugh! We scored 37 points in regulation against a marginal opponent, that should've been more than enough O to win. And, for the most part this season, we've been on the North side of any health bug/excuse considering we are 6 games deep into the season. This game, in my opinion, was clearly lost on defense. I realize that that fumble 6 was a lucky break for Pitt and unfortunate for us (should've been blown dead) which solidified the momentum, but the mo/dam had already started to leak with that untouched 69 yard scamper just a few moments earlier. That Dungey fumble (if it had been blown dead) would've set up a 3rd and long, and you just sensed how the switch rather instantly just flipped against all of that early mo we had quickly built at 14-0. From that early 14-0 lead, we were outscored 27-3 one minute into the 3rd before the rain delay. That delay really seemed to benefit SU, as we came out and recaptured the mo back scoring 17 unanswered, but as soon as that happened, Pitt just ran it down our throats again, and our run D couldn't do a thing to stop it, knowing that was what Pitt was going to do. That tied the game at 34. We got that lucky break on the ensuing possessing on the long gainer pass that should've been ruled out of bounds, and settled for 3. Pitt came right back down the field running the ball, again down our throats, to force the OT at 37.. In that entire Pitt possession, they just rather ho-humly took their sweet 'ol time without any seemingly sense of worry whatsoever, knowing that they would at least, at a minimum, get the FG. Our LB's are just flat out awful, and significantly undersized physically. Whit is 215 lbs, and Guthrie is 220. These guys can't get off their blocks because of it, and even if in position, struggle to bring guys down as the backs just carry/drag them on for an additional 2-3 yards per play, every play, or so it appeared. Unfortunately, I don't see much changing in the weeks ahead. Scheme all you want, but this is P5 football and our LB's lack of physical prowess is a major dilemma moving forward.
