"Recruit says he's dropping Syracuse because coaches can't pick up their phones"

Someone needs to get fired for that. I realize it's 1 (well 2 counting the earlier guy) recruit, but given our condition, this is inexcusable. We A) need all the help that we can get, and B) need to improve our reputation. Anyway, it's not like any of the coaches on offense aren't highly replaceable. This kid is a WR. I wonder if McD is throwing an "I'm mad because I'm not OC" fit and dragging his feet.

I understand that when these guys were hired, HCSS really didn't have any other choices and there hasn't been a chance for HCSS to clean house before now. I still think that HCSS has the raw talent to make it as HC with the right people around him. Therefore, I'm OK with giving HCSS a chance with real assistant coaches. However, the Mickey Mouse m*rons that currently surround him need to go. We have MAC assistant coaches and we are getting MAC results. This has to end soon...like in the next two weeks soon. Otherwise, HCSS' goose is cooked.

There are other threads about this. Apparently, the staff decided to go in another direction. It would have been better for "a program of character" to simply have told him that. The change in OC responsibilities would've been the reason... emphasis of TE, reduced need for WR.

You're wrong but why bother fact checking. Syracuse is still recruiting wide receivers and this had nothing to do with a shift in philosophy or OCs.

Macdonald was demoted in October. This kid hasn't been contacted since September.

Good news IMO, he wasn't that good and they know they can fill the spot with a better player.

So tell the kid that and move on, instead of letting the kid twist in the wind not knowing where he stands. Totally classless move, and I'd expect more from a coach who is always talking about character.

I don't know what happened but if SU's staff just ignored this kids calls because they went in a different direction I've lost some respect for them. I know it's big boy football and things happen and it's possible there was a miscommunication or the like.

Wah. How do you know they didn't? How do you know he had a commitable offer? I saw a lot of kids Instagram/tweet their official offers, I never saw his.

This happens all the time in college football get over it.

That's total BS. The staff had contact with him weeks ago to let him know they were moving on. People are complaining for the sake of complaining now, and you can blame the Sub-Standard for causing all of this gut reaction on SI and SportsNation. There are a decent number of people who knew this was coming for a couple of weeks. Give credit where credit is due; McAllister over at TOS had the scoop a while ago.

What's the staff say about all this???

Oh, that's right. NCAA rules prohibit the school from commenting on recruits until after LOI Day.

This is a "He Said" / "He Said" "The NCAA Won't Let Us Say" situation.

Guess we'll never know.

FWIW his official offer is posted in his thread on the recruiting page. I think it stinks that they offered him and then changed their mind - but given the situation the program finds itself in and the realization that this kid would not fit in their plans - I understand the change. I hope the kid finds another team and has a great college career.

I wouldn't say people are complaining for the sake of complaining. People are complaining based on a news story. Accurate or not, there are a lot more people on here that aren't "insiders" than people that are and default to trusting news sources that quote the only person that's actually allowed to talk about the situation. If the kid is lying, shame on him.

Edit: FWIW, Stephen Bailey stated they checked their info before posting the story.

i hope at least they are contacting the kids they do want and re-assuring them

You're wrong
So, you're saying that they were still interested in him and simply ignored him? You're right, that must be what happened. SMH

Well apparently they didn't check it very well.

Beat me to it. I was going to say the same thing. Maybe I'll beat you to it in the next thread I see about this same story! :D

What does it mean that they checked their info? The kid messaged them back and confirmed what he said before? If SU can't comment, then what is he confirming?

As an aside, who are the PS writers going to cover when they get the athletics department shutdown? It seems like they are on a bit of a witch hunt lately.

To be fair there are not a lot of positives to write about and even if they did they would be criticized as homers.

There are always two sides to the story. Good grief, they've changed the types of kids they're going after to fit into Lester's scheme. He was no longer needed and that wasn't until 4-5 weeks ago.

He was aware of what was going on, so don't get hyped up with all of the drama.

lol, PS writers as "homers". That made me laugh.

Beats me. I only know that he made a point to say it in the comments section. I don't know anyone that works for the P/S and I don't know any of the insiders on here that state the staff called the kid. If I'm going to be objective, I don't know who I'm supposed to believe. Am I supposed to believe that the writers have a vendetta against the athletic department or am I supposed to believe the fans on the site that claim to have inside information? Have the beat writers fostered an adversarial relationship with the football staff to the point the staff refused to set the record straight in an anonymous fashion? Did the staff contact Bailey telling him to not run the story because his facts were incorrect, but he did it anyway? In the end, I'm just a fan reading various reports and comments about a situation I know nothing concrete about.

On November 5 Steven Bailey ran a story about Gerald Robinson de- committing, which stated that he said we hadn't been in contact since the end of September. Yet this young man is coming on an official visit 12/5, and we seem to be at the top of his list to play. Maybe the reporter misunderstood what the player actually meant. After all these are 17,and 18 year old men, and 50 years ago when I entered the service, their were a lot of things I said that came out wrong.
