when when my belief that "we don't need a playoff" is reaffirmed. unbeaten teams start getting knocked off in playoff-like fashion and by the end of the year, we'll have seen a ton of awesome football with intensity that equals anything we'd see in the playoffs. MSU's amazing win wouldn't have met nearly as much if we knew that wisconsin would likely still reach a playoff. Likewise with Texas Tech. If OU beats OSU, they're in the playoff and the loss to Tech is effectively negated. LSU vs. Bama midseason is a million times more exciting than any regular season basketball that we'll ever see.

I love college football beyond everything else because the regular season is so amazing. Teams' hopes are on the line every single week. That would cease if you give all the top teams a do-over after a loss.

Having a playoff system would NOT diminish the regular season. Each game would still have a ton of meaning, especially if you had an 8 team playoff with 6 AQs and 2 Wildcards.

And as for the do-overs, there have been plenty of 1 loss teams in the BCS Championship game.

you have the best two teams playing next weekend and the loser isn't gonna get a shot at the title. that scenario is never matched if there is a playoff...so that means the regular season WOULD be diminished.

NCAA D1 is literally the only football league/conference/whatever ANYWHERE that doesn't have a playoff. Just like with March Madness, there's no guarantee anyone would win automatically. Just look at the upsets this past weekend.

That is false ... for instance if the Alabama/LSU loser wins out from that point forward and the winner goes to the SEC championship game and loses it is very possible that the regular season loser can leapfrog into the title game because the SEC East winner who would have had to have beaten one of those two teams in the title game isn't nearly as highly ranked ... it is very possible that the loser gets another shot. Will it happen? Probably not but because of the BCS system it can happen.

We honestly don't need a playoff or a BCS this season. Give the winner of Alabama LSU the trophy.

of course it CAN happen, but i'm saying it won't because LSU/bama aren't losing to the team from the east this year.

right, and it's also the best regular season BY FAR. in basketball when there are 20-something games, there's room for a lot more variation. a tourney fits. for football, the regular season IS the tourney.

how is the regular season the tourney when you aren't even guaranteed a chance at a title if you win all your games?

Except it's a tourney in which about four teams have a legit shot at the national championship. Boise State, for example, will never get a fair shake despite consistently being one of the best teams in the country.

I say this all the time but no one ever listens. So listen...

College football has a playoff.

Every year there is a playoff of 2 teams. One wins and is crowned national champ.

The question is whether or not there should be more teams included.

I've always felt 8 was best, but 4 could work.

And Oklahoma wasnt supposed to lose to K-State a few years back, but they did and still got in the BCS title game.
