makes me wonder where has it been written that with < 30 seconds remaining in a decided game that you have to stop playing? Is that in the NCAA rule book? It's so incredibly dumb and even more stupid when it is expected of bench players that get in at the end of a blowout.

I can understand criticizing a coach when he's up 20+ very late and doesn't empty the bench but that's for common sense reasons. 1- why risk injury to your star players in meaningless action and 2- why not reward bench guys that have worked hard all year long? Not necessarily for etiquette reasons.

K comes off looking like a big cry baby in keeping with his decision not to shake hands with all of the SU players and coaches after the loss at Durham this season.

The shot clock was down to 1 with 10 seconds to go. He throws up a 30 footer. It goes in. What was he supposed to do? Hand the ball to the opposing player? How is that less rude? How the whole thing started is a mystery.

Someone on ESPN said the issue was him jawing with the Duke bench after the shot.

I agree with you but there is a school of thought (wrong imo) that Brooks is supposed to hand the ball over to the other team in that spot.

How about Frank Mason scoring a layup as time expired and both teams had already walked off the court? I thought that was pretty classless. Kid was clearly worried about his stat line.

Just checked. Up 14 with 2 seconds left, and both teams essentially already off of the court, Frank Mason was 3-10 with 9 points. He shot a lay-up as time expired to make sure he got his double figures.

I don't like this trend of quitting early, but can't complain about that one. He didn't go hard to the hoop or make a move, but it was clear that he was wandering in that direction. Those two Maryland guys should've kept playing.

Why are we even talking about this stuff. It happens any which way throughout the whole season and no one talks about it. One game a guy dribbles out the final seconds. Another game a guy will take a long shot at the buzzer down 4,5,6,20 points- whatever. Still other times a guy throws down a two handed slam up a dozen as an exclamation. It doesn't matter in the scheme of things, so why should anyone care? Is it supposed to be different because it's the NCAA tourney? I don't get it.

I only care because I don't want to work anymore and am trying to pass the time before I can leave the office and start consuming alcoholic beverages.

1 MINUTE TO GO!!

Yeah you're right. Why should K care?

That certainly shouldn't surprise anyone. Just like his BS story about why he skipped the line when we beat their a$$ earlier this year. He is an interesting guy. He has many people conned that he is a good sportsman. He is when they win.
He has NEVER been sporting... win or lose... somehow he wooed the media years ago and they may finally be awakening from their slumber...

I'm sure he is a competitive bastard....most winners are. There is an old saying...... nice guys finish last. Nice guys are nice guys because they worry about things other than winning...like the feelings of the players on the other team; make sure that they always compliment the opponent; how people will perceive what they do to get the victory etc., etc.

The real winners just do what it takes to win...sometimes nobody notices that they stepped on a few dead bodies to get to the victory. If you keep wining long enough, eventually someone notices that you stepped on a few along the way.

Unfortunately, today's liberal society wants everyone to believe you can be a nice guy and still be a winner. Nice guys will win occasionally, but not consistently.

Agree. Ortiz & Coach K are the two biggest fake good guys in sports.

Good luck to the Cavs tonight. I hope the Orange foil the plans, but its been an incredible 3 year run for UVA and this weekend is their chance to give it more meaning in the form of a final four.

I think this is complete myth. Having the class to give your opponent credit and handling yourself with class and grace in the face of defeat has nothing to do with how hard or how well you compete before the whistle blows. We could all name countless examples of that. To offer just a few, Rivera, Jeter, Brady, Manning, Mickelson, Els.

Ortiz? lol I've been to numerous Sox games home and away and opposing players flock around the guy during pre-game like he's the Mayor of MLB. Apparently he's fooled a lot of them too.

Manning used to love throwing people under the bus, fwiw.

Won't play first bc he's afraid of getting hurt (and losing at bats and bonus), complains about error decisions in blowout games, feigns indignation at any mention of peds, and on it goes.
