This much is true

Fran brought in a ton of OL bodies in the portal for a reason. Unfortunately, like pretty much every portal guy not named Angeli, the bodies have done little to nothing
listened to fran on the radio last night. pretty much straight open told matt park that he intends to build this program thru recruiting and not the portal. says he'd rather develop young players into young men.

Our first quarters this year:

Tennessee 0-17
UConn 0-0
Colgate 14-3
Clemson 10-7
Duke 3-10
SMU 0-3
Pitt 7-7
_________
20 points in 1st quarter against FBS opponents-- 3.3 per game. 1/2 of that was Clemson.

Second quarters:

Outscored 80-37 against FBS.

Third quarters:

Outscored 20-16... although Colgate also outscored us 14-7.

Defense seems to tighten up after halftime. Also seems like every game we get the ball first, so that is more possessions for our opponents. Interesting.

Fourth quarters:

Outscoring FBS opponents 47-41. Some of this is Tennessee, Duke, and SMU (and perhaps even Pitt and even UConn)... taking the foot of the gas up by comfortable margins. UConn thought they had a comfortable margin. Pitt got pretty close to that point also.

Other Analysis:

We have outscored our opponent in only 6 of 25 quarters (including the OT against UConn as a quarter) against FBS opponents (and 3 of 4 against Colgate). We could have tied Tennessee with 2 XPs in 2 quarters, otherwise we have been tied in 4 quarters. Still, that is 19 quarters (76%) where we are outscored or tied.

Even with Angeli, we failed to outscore our opponent in the first 7 quarters. We then went on a streak of outscoring UConn/Clemson 5 straight quarters (Q4, UConn; OT, UConn; Q1, Clemson; Q2, Clemson; and Q3, Clemson). One each of Q1/Q2/Q3/Q4/OT. Since then, we have only outscored our opponents in 1 of 13 quarters, with that being garbage time Q4 against SMU. Even with the PT return from Pitt, we were still outscored in that 2nd quarter 3-0. We are not just losing games, we are losing the majority of quarters. Other than Clemson, we start slow and then get worse in Q2.
so when you lose more games than you win...you also lose most quarters within each game. Wow, I never would have thought that.

The point was that we are losing the first quarter nearly every game… and then getting worse in the second quarter. Not sure what happens after halftime, but it has been our best quarter. Is that not a little interesting?

Also… maybe the team needs to focus on winning quarters. Kick the easy FG and get the lead. Going for it and failing on the first drive gives way too much momentum to the other team. Goal: Win the 1st quarter.

Yes it is, I was just messing with you. I appreciate all contributions and others perspectives.
But, if you lose more than you win you will always lose most quarters. Do we get worse or do the other teams get better in the 2nd quarter?
After half, typically the team with more points becomes more conservative to preserve the lead.
I hope we are competitive today bc I think if Ga Tech gets ahead they are not gonna become conservative and they will go all out and try to curb stomp us.
Their coach has no class, none.

Let's realize that the last 3 games with a good QB, like Eric, or Garrett we wouldn't have thought about going for a field goal early in the game.
They would have found a way to score a touchdown.

Still, take the points for a young team with a QB that lacks confidence. Maybe that reduces the pressure and helps with the next drive. Instead, now he has to try harder to make up for the squandered drive.

The real telling point about Rickie is after his 3 losing starts, we still have a starter, who has won a game as the QB in our TE.

I expect to see a completely different offensive mindset today. I would hope they use Rickie on the outside for his legs. Force him into the game by using his legs and then ease his way into the best 10-15 passing plays we run. Variations on those to get him to see the defense.

Defensively continue the blitz happy approach to put pressure on the offense and continue to get after it. Bringing in Don Brown was a brilliant move by Fran and Elijah in getting Elijah to learn and understand havoc blitzing.

Expected that last week. Not holding my breath,

Im not so sure anything with OL is on Fran.

These portal additions are all the picks of Dale Williams and everyone is who HE wanted.

I seriously question his ability to evaluate talent. I also seriously question his ability to coach.

We need to let Dale go in the off season and pay for a solid OL coach.

When we hired the O Line coach, we knew his specialty was pass protection, and we saw that Year One. This year, once our passing QB went down, he has not turned them into an adequate run blocking unit, and he's had about a month to do it.

They aren’t good run blockers in a run first scheme. No amount of time is going to change that.

When you're 6-7 and 320, and the defender is 3 inches shorter, and 30 pounds lighter, if you know the play is a run, and all you have to do is fire off the ball and move your man back, then if you can't do that (1) get lower and get meaner, and (2) hit the sled. Push the damn sled. Learn how to move the smaller man. It's physics, man.

If it was that simple, they’d be doing it.

It IS that simple. Football is not a difficult game.

You have to know how to approach things when events change against you. You have to be flexible, not dogmatic in your approach. Football is chess.

There is literally nothing new in football. It is 90% execution and 10% tactics.

Every chess combination has been documented and studied ad infinitum. Yet, people still win chess matches. Not every match ends in a draw.

Any play should be able to produce a touchdown, if it's executed 100% effectively.

fran needs an advisor/mentor on his staff. he appears somewhat over his head. sure losing the starting qb is a blow. however, unfortunately he has been unable to adjust in ANY phase of the game except kicking. his lack of depth and experience shows. he needs help. i get the feeling that the coaching staff is not totally on board with him. as a fan i WANT him to be successful. there was a lack of trust in the fan base when he was selling collins skills. he should have said he is very talented but a work in progress. however this is not all on collins .
what is more disturbing to me is the number of injuries, the lack of discipline , reluctance to use different qbs . what he did with carney was ridiculous.
i hope fan and company can regroup and begin to show progress and cohesion. i do not expect miracles at this point. the players probably feel awful as well.

Did you want him to say Collins, the guy he named the starter out of the spring, was terrible so when they brought in Angeli he would just give up? How does that help keep the team together?

This was always going to be a difficult season, but throwing players under the bus with the guise of transparency with the fans is idiotic.

He's already brought in two well known advisors this year, the guy who left for UCLA and now Don Brown. It shows he's always looking to get better.

how did what i said about collins translate into he is terrible ??? you show your own BIAS here my friend. throwing players under the bus is much different that demanding learning and accountability . feel free to twist it anyway you want ,

You're the one saying Fran is in over his head, not me. I gave reasons why we should be optimistic that Fran is learning and getting better on the job, what am I twisting?
