This team gets on the goddamn floor!

I don’t know that I’ve ever had lower expectations going into an SU hoops season, so it’s been a damn pleasant surprise to realize how fun this group is to root for. Easy to look past the limitations of this team when they give effort like they did tonight. Great win.

Yeah, it's hard not to like this team.

I don't want to go overboard, but... they might not have a whole lot of limitations. They play good basketball on both ends of the floor. The roster is balanced. Players have defined roles. I don't think the team is short on raw talent either.

#MeToo. I thought they were ghastly. Apparently I was on nattering nabob of negativity.

Great OP. That is going to keep us in most games and help win us some.

It’s early and teams are still figuring each other out. I’ve seen most of the big boys play at least once. Unfortunately Kansas I think will be too much for us. They have it all with better and more explosive athletes. Same with Duke. Florida guards I think would create havoc on both ends and wreck the zone. Michigan State with MSU’s physicality probably is in that boat too. That’s only a few teams. We’re in MUCH better shape than I thought a few weeks ago...wow. Great job by the coaches and kids.

You just listed the top 5 teams in the country - and I agree with you.

But I think we could beat teams like UNC, Nova, etc if we play like we've been playing

Love this TEAM! Looking forward to watching them live this Saturday here in South Florida.

I like this team, no oddball positioning for the most part.

Huerter though, damn.
Great point - I think everyone playing a set position is helping a ton. No Lydon needing to play out of position out of necessity. Plus the depth to keep changing and finding the rotation that is working on that given night is something we haven't had in a while.

About a week ago Oshae, Gerry and Leo had a funny thread on Twitter about floor burns that started with Leo jokingly needling OB that Leo was impressed OB was getting those floor burns. Good stuff.

Um what rotation and depth? The centers split time. Moyer and Thorpe will play out of necessity. That’s it. There’s nothing to figure out.

The one thing, and it's kind of obvious/important, is the shooting. Right now, we're 300th in the country in 3p% (29.1%) and 138th in 2p% (51.1). A lot of the 3 point shooting is 2 guys; Brisset is 6-24 and Thorpe is 4-14; I assume they will end up a little better than that.

The other stuff all looks really good though. #1 in the country in block rate, which has unsurprisingly lead to elite 2 point defense (37.1%, 3rd in the country). Some of that is schedule, but even last night, we had a block% around 18%, which is elite. Steal%, 6th in the country.

Offensive rebounding; crushing it. 43%, 2nd in the country. Again, somewhat schedule based, but we had an offensive rebounding rate near 50% last night. It's also nice to be good at offensive rebounding if you have trouble shooting. Even the defensive rebounding, which is normally an issue, has held up ok, 75th in the country.

It's still really early, we haven't played a lot of good competition. I have definitely raised my expectations a little from where they were at the beginning of the year though. Kansas will be a very good test.
