This will be cool

In the mid 80s, I went to the University with a proposal to air the SU vs GTown basketball game on the screen in the dome. They declined. Though they did finally show the national semifinal and championship game in 2003.

The movie theater airings are cool, but I worry that fans will turn surly if the game doesn’t go well. In a bar, patrons can just turn away from the game, or walk out. Much more difficult to do in a theater.

Still, great that they’re trying things.
If my memory serves, I saw Syracuse beat MSU and then lose to Kentucky on a big screen in the Dome in 1996 Final Four (I know I saw a game there I just cant remember if they showed both)

Cant see how this would be fun without a large contingency of friends (cheering on the same team) and decently priced quality food and drink.

In this day and age of home theaters and sports bars I don't see this working
Ya, I have zero interest in attending a game in a movie theater but maybe enough would to make it work.

The entire theater industry is dying an ugly slow death. They are desperate to try anything, but at the end of the day, their whole business is really just a projector, a screen, and an excuse to sell expensive popcorn.
One simple thing they could try to do is make people keep their mouths shut during a movie. A few years ago I shushed someone that was talking to his friend in full voice like he was in his living room. He actually got up and complained to a manager about ME. My wife and I like going to the movies. But we don't go now because other people ruin the experience. I'm not paying $40 to hear other people talk.

Yup. I think they did do ‘96. Ten years after I tried to get them to do it.

30 dollars? Screw that
Not really getting twice the cost of a normal ticket to movie and in some cases more than a game ticket itself.

Why would there be any demand at all at that price point?

I have been to maybe a dozen movie this yr and only 1 had kids talking.. I rarely have had people talk during movies any more and usually with 5-10 people in there they could talk and i wouldnt know it.

what ever happened to live VR games and the metaverse for sports?
that was supposed to be a thing.

For us it hasn't been kids. It's always adults. Maybe it's where I live. There is a special kind of self centeredness here that I never experienced up in CNY.

Haven't they showed various SU basketball games at the Palace Theatre in Eastwood over the years? I've never personally attended but they seemed lively and well-attended.

I go during the day and mostly 3-4 weeks out and its shocking how small crowds are. Some of that is that they feel the need to have 10-15 shows of a movie and less movies to show.

We used to do morning or early afternoon showings. The theaters weren't usually packed. It really didn't matter though. And it seemed to be people that didn't care much about the movie, they just went to have something to do. That's probably why they talked so much.

Google netaverse
I met with the Cleveland Cavaliers last year and they were testing NFT-based items + food delivery (apparently around the globe - incl. China) + VR/virtual events - where you actually have seats like in the real arena...

Again... where did that go?

This is the byproduct of two industries that are desperate for revenue: movie theaters and cable TV.
