First of all, I made the mistake of not arriving early enough to get to see everyone including coming by the Fine Lot crew. Some bad reception trying to connect with Cusetroop about 90 minutes pre kickoff followed by having to divert to grab my folks who made it up and was bummed to miss y'all. Will be back for Holy Cross though ( work travel next weekend).
All that said- what an incredible day. Started the day at skytop, parked next to a retired couple of Clemson fans who I chatted with for a bit. Wonderful couple who were extremely complementary of our team and Dino along with not realizing how nice of an area/scenery there is in our little corner of the country. Followed that up making some rounds with newly found friends and old across the stable of tailgates from Skytop down to Manley. Just in awe of the amount of people and just so proud to see the whole campus be lit up to support Dino and company yesterday. Just awesome.
Finished the day with another group of old friends down by E Adams/Irving and then just missed hooking up with Troop and seeing the Fine Lot crew. Brought my folks in for their first football game ever. Result aside- their was no doubt a complete awe of the amount of people.
The introductions and crowd to kickoff the series was just freaking awesome. Almost enough to make you a a little emotional. Just getting those same run through a wall vibes for the first 20 minutes from intro to the first Clemson punt. Then even the moments into the Frederick INT.. incredible experience.
As for the game- Clemson is awesome. Their O line is much better than last year. Just dominated our solid D Line all game. Our Dbs and LBs played their tails off. I was very happy with the defensive effort. The Rodgers TD hurt but as much on the O as the D.
The offense needs to find themselves and looked disjointed and frustrated. Not just the OL- the whole group. Receivers were frustrated and it showed up in the breaks as certain guys were visibly arguing/venting to coaches.
The ending/result was not what we wanted but Dino handled it like a true leader. More fans than I thought even expressed continued optimism on the busride back to skytop. We have a program again and we have a lot that needs to get better. That said we can still do this. I greatly look forward to getting back up as soon as possible and sure hope there is good reason to see near 50k again by the end of this year. Again just an awesome day/weekend all together and a proud moment as an alum.
To finish off the right way- while it wasn't as loud or spoken about given the game itself- the honoring of the title team and Tim Green- just wonderful. I wish we could have offered them both a win but just great stuff all around. Now let's go beat some WMU tail and get this thing back on the fast track.
