a few good tidbits in the ESPN story on marinuttos's resignation/firing. For example:
1. He wanted the ESPN contract signed
2. He expanded without the bball schools having a say
...so he apparently went against Providence etc and now comes away a loser...
BUT, the article has more potential IMPACT on 'Cuse based on following which indicates new media contract must be large and that Boise St and still comes to the BE. There is trouble with the WAC losing teams and the MWC gaining Utah State and San Jose State...Boise St may just stay west...Now what for the BE...maybe have to hold onto 'Cuse throughout the 27 months to keep the conference alive.....
"Automatic qualifying status is already gone, which many believe could have a major impact on the Big East and the addition of new members Boise State and San Diego State.
But league sources say they believe the schools will play if the leadership negotiates a strong enough television deal. The conference is set to begin negotiating a new television deal in September.
Multiple industry sources said that one of the reasons the Mountain West Conference didn't expand beyond 10 football members with the addition of San Jose State and Utah State was in case Boise State wanted to return.
Boise State is slated to put its other sports in the WAC in 2013. But with the WAC facing a decline in membership, the Broncos are looking at the Big West, where the Aztecs' non-football teams will play, mulitple sources have said.
WHAT IMPACT WILL ALL THIS HAVE ON 'Cuse leaving before the 27 months?

The BE allowed WV to buy their way out of the conference two years early.

If SU and Pitt were denied the same opportunity to exercise an early buyout, the BE would be setting themselves up for another lawsuit. Especially if SU and Pitt had no say in Marinatto's ouster.

Umm, no. Just because you make a deal with one departing school doesn't mean you have to make the same deal with others. This is private business, not the government with some equal protection issues. The BEC could let Louisville out tomorrow if it wanted to, still keeping SU and Pitt in the fold.

That makes sense... and also depending on where WVU monies went.

no impact, we're out.

if the hoop onlies are behind this, they couldnt give 2 shlits about keeping us. they already have a nice quorum and wont need any new blood, except for the ones they choose.

like butler.

or st louis.

or vcu.

No impact. Why pay SU and Pitt revenue shares if replacement schools have already been brought in? No reason. Those dollars should be split among the BE members. It's in the member schools financial self interest to push out SU and Pitt for the fall of 2013.

Does this mean that the new BE FB Conference is starting to flex its muscle - that the BB schools are no longer in charge?

That the primary reason for the change is to procure a huge TV deal - by a football person?

It should be interestint to watch.
