Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay announced a minor roster move on Tuesday, reporting that the team had signed veteran running back Mewelde Moore and placed rookie quarterback David Legree on waivers.
NFL
Indianapolis Colts coach Chuck Pagano: Donald Brown is an every down back
Carter (5-9, 238) and Ballard (5-10, 217) are one-cut, downhill slammers.
“You just don’t want to wear somebody out,” Pagano said. “You’ve got a bell cow (in Brown), so to speak, and a lot of teams have a third down guy. So if we can keep guys fresh, and guys are able to go out and execute the offense, then we will use them for sure.”
It wasn’t an issue for him at Syracuse, but Carter was labeled a fumbler last season. Beginning with a game at New Orleans in which he ran 10 times for 89 yards and a touchdown, Carter lost three fumbles in a span of 31 carries.
He lost playing time. He fumed silently. He fingered the team’s 0-13 start.
“The way the season was going, I expected that a little bit, and people look to something to pinpoint it on, but it’s no biggy,” he said. “I understand the nature of things like that so I’m ready to go.”
He’s ready to go or he will be. Carter stubbed his right thumb on a blocking bag the first day of OTAs. He tore a ligament, required surgery and missed all the OTAs and minicamp but is expected to be sound for the start of training camp.

Donald Brown and Delone Carter are expected to be the top two backs on the Colts, so Moore will provide some veteran leadership as the team installs Arians' offense as he competes with 2012 fifth-round pick Vick Ballard, Darren Evans and Deji Karim for the No. 3 running back role this summer
NFL
RB Ronnie Brown had several reps in this period and throughout practice. He even made a nice one-handed catch as a receiver. RB Curtis Brinkley is still very much in the mix even with the addition of Brown signing during OTAs.
