I used to LOVE Roller Derby when I was a kid. It was better than pro wrestling for a time.
I loved pro wrestling as a kid, roller derby came along when I was a young adult. Loved them both.

I remember watching the women's teams in the late 70's. I think they were the T-Birds and the Bombers? I remember there was this hot blonde chick, but I forget her name. She was one of the stars.

Roller Derby was the epitome of good guys vs bad guys. The names were as familiar as NFL stars today.
It got me looking for more memories: http://www.rollerskatingmuseum.com/rollerderby.html

Here's the Roller Derby HOF: http://www.rollerderbyhalloffame.com/

Guess which sports writer was inducted? None other than Frank DeFord!

From reading the history it looks as though my era was all about show over talent. Mostly hot women who couldn't skate very well. Oh well, they looked hot. :)
