Can anyone recall the violation he whistled in that Georgetown game at Manley back in the 79-80 season?
Remember this one?
Froggy Paparo's blocking call on Andre Hawkins after Michael Adams plowed through the Hawk and the tent he pitched at mid court at the end of that game in Boston in 1984. Adams went on to make those free throws to win the game. *
Paparo had a history of making questionable calls against Syracuse over his career; the fallout from this game would be such that Paparo would never referee another Syracuse game, and the following season he switched to officiating ACC games.

He thrives on controversy remember this when he worked (yeah right) for the city?

Back in his softball playing days he and his buddies trashed hotel rooms leaving a trail up and down the east coast. He was banned by the Amateur Softball Association from participating in any of their tournaments until he compensated the hotels.
He also left hotel & motel bills unpaid for while he was a referee. I think that is what finally did him in as a ref.
Here is a gem from his ACC days:
"After a bad call, they used to yell, 'The refs, they suck, they really, really suck,' " Bilas says. "And when (referee) Dick Paparo would come in and make a bad call, they'd chant, 'You suck, Dick!' "
This infuriated Coach K, who insisted that the Crazies cease and desist. After the next bad call by Paparo, the crowd chanted, "You suck, Richard."

That he made bad calls at Duke doesn't surprise me as he and Dean Smith were golf buddies. In fact Dean went to bat for Froggy on more than one occasion. Paparo lasted as long as he did in the ACC in great measure due to Smith's interventions.
