Tim Leonard: SU Led in Blitzing Last Week

Does blitz not mean what I think it means?

Where is this data coming from?

I do remember us getting some hits on Aguilar, which I assume came from some blitzing pressure, so we blitzed more than zero times, but that volume seems... off.
PFF.

I’ve been pretty vocal on my disdain for that site previously. Some people here love it. We don’t need to rehash that.

For stats—rush 4 or less, not a blitz. Rush 5 or more, counts as a blitz.

I want to go back and look at film. But at least in my head to get that feels like they must be counting rpo’s where the Tennessee line moved forward and our linebackers collapsed on the line instead of dropping back. Something like that, there were a bunch of RPO/PA calls. If we had that many legit blitzes called then I’d question if our defense playbook sucks.

Early in the game, we used the LBs on a bunch of inside stunts.

encouraged that we blitzed more than ever before
discouraged that it resulted in minimal pressure… but it was Tennessee.

There's just no way. I watched that game and I know football and there's no way Cuse sent 5+ on more than a couple of plays. Whoever graded that game for PFF doesn't know how to determine a blitz.
