Just complete hacks. Awful. Clueless. Almost like listening to two drunks in a bar that are too busy drinking, talking to waitresses and basically not paying attention yet trying to give play-by-play and color commentary.

Time Warner would be better off simply paying extra to Syracuse to pipe in Gedney and Parks ...

Could someone please explain to them that the starting RB's name is Prince-Tyson Gulley? His last name is NOT Tyson-Gulley.

A stony brook game is on TV which is a miracle and people complain that the announcers aren't madden and summerall.

I personally like Mark Larson and think he does a good job, but the color commentator (his voice is very recognizable on those Time Warner games but I don't know his name) is TERRIBLE.

Dale Drypolcher.

I think they lost their mid-field camera in the first quarter and were forced to show the game from the 25s. It was awful, though

Dale Drypolcher has been around FOREVER. He was doing color on SUper Sports back in the 80s. From what I've seen and heard, he's gotten way better. He used to scream every time Syracuse did something exciting.

The thing that drove me seriously crazy yesterday were the sideline interviews. It was a fairly close game in the 4th and Dan Liedka was doing PR interviews that should have been knocked out in the 1st half.

Agree completely. I liked Drypolcher's comment about Macky Mac. Center snaps used to be an adventure and now are automatic. Also, I noticed Mac is always in the photos giving hug lifts to Broyld and PTG. He is becoming one of my favorites.

I have the 1987 SU/WVU game recorded on VHS. At the end of the game after we scored and were down 1, he was screaming, "Kick the extra point! Kick it!" He should have never been allowed to call another game after that.

Basically since the mid to late 1990's Syracuse football has been on television 90%+ of the time. I expect games to be on television or available in some format and Stoney Brook is not exception. And when it is on television, I expect at least competent announcers, not complete hacks that had no clue what was going on in front of them whether it was down and distance, penalty calls, flow of the game etc. Just awful.

So YES, I am complaining ... these folks were God-awful.

When you do one college game a year, it's pretty tough to stay in a groove and keep up with the flow of the game. Not to mention very hard to keep your Play by play skills sharp.

Also, Syracuse's talent base isn't exactly deep. Yes, yes. I know we have Syracuse University nearby. But I TA'd a sports announcing class last fall and those kids aren't ready. So yeah, there's only a few experienced guys around to do it.

Finally, we're all used to ESPN broadcasts. TWC Sports doesn't have the resources or talent surrounding it to give the national-quality broadcast we're used to.

And yeah, the broadcast yesterday was pretty blah. But at least we only have to put up with it once a year.

THEY WERE HORRIBLE! If I hear the fat guy yell again while the play is happening, I may lose it! "Huge Hole!!!" =shut the

He yelled "No!!!" when Rene went out of bounds on the kickoff

Get what you are saying, but those guys do SU basketball and lax games too, in addition to other local sports. Granted they do one SU football (assuming they do HS football) once in a while but let's not pretend they are never on TV.

That being said - if you can't go to the game, you have to deal with it if you want to see the game. Mark is the sports director, correct? So you're not getting rid of him.

Not surprised. He's the one yelling "YES! YES! YES!" when SU scored the two point conversion against WVU in 1987.

Well, YNN and TWCS aren't really all that linked. Yeah same company, but I worked at YNN for two years and know absolutely nothing about TWCS. So bumping Larson for some one else wouldn't be that hard.

But as I've said before, I used to intern under Larson and have lots of respect for the guy. So my opinion is obviously weighted differently. Not to mention I'm always a huge media apologist.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like Larson, I don't mind Drypolcher, and I even liked Doug Logan. I think TWCNY does a great job with local sports. I agree that the TWCNY's production values fall short of ESPN and the networks, but they're much better than the other Upstate New York TW local sports broadcasts, which look like they were shot with an old fashioned VHS camcorder.

Larson is a very nice guy and not as bad as he's made out to be. But he's also not good enough to carry a broadcast that also features Liedka and Drypolcher. They're unlistenable 99% of the time.

I remember following an SU-VaTech game in the late 90s on the ESPN2 bottom line. Just watched another game for hours and waited for our score to come up every 6-7 minutes.

Now we get a game against a 1-AA in HD and people bitch and moan.

We're a terrible people.

Their interview with Coach Mac was interesting to say the least. Definitely seemed like two fans hangIng with Mac and not announcers. Until the Stony Brook game I had never heard an announcer say "kick the crap out of them."

Thats funny because the TV announcers didn't bother me when I was watching the game from my seat in the dome. When we start selling out every game then we can afford better announcers. Untill then its the law of supply and demand.

I think I remember Mac saying "Good!" When the SB WR was crawling off the field. Anyone else remember this?

I think Larson and Liedka actually do a pretty good job on non-conference SU basketball telecasts. They're not the blatant homers one might expect and they actually seem prepared and provide useful information about the opposing teams. I'm not as impressed with Time Warner's football work.
